2009 - A Great Year for the U16s!
Division 2 League - We finished a respectable mid-table in the league.
Division 1 Shield - We, unfortunately, met a strong Castleknock in the semi-final.
We got a good turn-out at training sessions and matches (perhaps too good a turn-out for matches!)
27/04/09 Under 16 Div 2: Cuala 4-03, St Margarets Round Tower 5-11
To accommodate St Margarets, we played unusually on a Monday evening. Another good turnout from the Cuala girls, with
a panel of 26 girls. The rain stopped & the sun came out so things were looking good. St Margarets got off to a
good start with a goal in the first few minutes but the Cuala girls fought back with some gallant work by Mary, Grainne
and Aoife Ní C. with Martha & Alanna running out of their skins in midfield as usual. Many Cuala attempts drifted
disappointingly wide, letting the opposition off the hook.
We trailed by a mere few points at one stage but in the second half the St Margarets girls moved up a
gear and pulled away from us. A good effort by the girls but a disappointing result for Cuala.
05/04/09 Under 16 Div 2: Skerries Harp 6-03, Cuala 1-05
We travelled north to Skerries to meet a strong Skerries team. We had 22 players but 4 arrived late. We lost two good
players due to injuries at half time. We had to match Skerries 13 player panel which made giving all our players a game
a more difficult task. Excuses, excuses, excuses - we just didn't perform to our abilities and hence the result.
29/03/09 Under 16 Div 2: Cuala 6-08, Lucan Sarsfield 2-05
Our next outing was a home league match against Lucan Sarsfield. Again, the Cuala girls showed their
strength midfield & in defence. We outplayed the Lucan girls in spite of the disruption of substituting on a grand
scale to give all the panel a run out.
22/03/09 Under 16 Challenge: Cuala vs Kilmacud Crokes
To start the season off, we played a friendly against our neighbours Kilmacud Crokes(Div 1) on 22nd March. The girls put in a
great performance, worked well together and gave Stephen & Joe a glimpse of our potential. Cuala won this match comfortably.
