at the Cuala Choral event in the Killiney Castle on Wed night, we
are sure to be entertained!
Thanks to all who supported the girls from the U11 (1997) and U12
(1996) teams who joined members of the senior camogie team in a
camogie fund raising bag pack in Eurospar Killiney last Saturday.
The U7 (2001) and U8 (2000) Cuala girls took part in a very successful
mini camogie blitz against St Johns Ballinteer and Bray Emmetts
in a very cold Broadford last Saturday. There was a good turnout
from both age groups despite the change of time and location at
very short notice and all Cuala teams performed very well. This
Saturday the U8 (2000) girls play Templeogue Synge Street in football
in their final game of the season at 10.30am in Meadowvale.
The U11 girls play Bray Emmets in a football challenge game this
Saturday at 2.15pm in Bray in their first and last game of the season!
(Due to the clash of U11 football and camogie on the same day they
were entered at U12 this season so they are looking forward to playing
girls of their own age at last!)
The U12 girls play St. Johns Ballinteer in a football challenge
game this Saturday at 3.00pm in Marley Park in their last football
game of the sesaon

We aim to turn this into a charity event in aid of the Niall Mellon

Almost 80 U7 (2001) / U8 (2000) / U9 (1999) Cuala girls were joined
by 50 from Ballinteer St Johns for a very successful mini football
blitz in Meadowvale last Saturday. Despite the cold weather it was
great to see 130 girls under the age of 9 all enjoying themselves
playing football.
This Saturday it's the turn of camogie and the Cuala U7s / U8s / U9s
will again be joined by Ballinteer and also by teams from Bray Emmetts
and Na Fianna. Games get underway at 10.00am in Meadowvale.
U12 (1996) camogie team took part in an indoor 7 a side 4 team tournament
in Crumlin last Saturday. The girls were up against 3 of the strongest
teams in Dublin and battled well in all games particularly in their
last game against overall winners Good Council when they narrowly
lost out by 6 goals to 5.
Girls from the U11 (1997) and U12 (1996) teams will be joining the
senior camogie team in a club camogie fund raising bag pack in Eurospar

Don't forget the Cuala 2000s will be selling Christmas Trees in Hyde
Park on Saturday 13th December from 9am to 6pm. Now why would you
go anywhere else to get yours!
If you feel like a bit of Christmas entertainment why not join the
Cuala 1999s who are having a fundraiser in the Killiney Castle on
Wednesday 3rd December with a Christmas Concert. A night of music
performed by the gospel choir "Anthem Singers" promises
to be a great event. Tickets are €20 and can be ordered from
Michael Jackson at michael@dlr.ie or on 086 2375736.
Well done to U13 Hurlers who recorded a good championship victory
over Oliver Plunketts last weekend. The U13B footballers lost their
Shield semi-final against St.Pats Palmerstown. They played with great
spirit throughout the match and never gave up. However, these lads
can take solace from finishing top of their football league and also
having had an excellent hurling season. Thanks to all parents and
A-team players who came to support them on a cold Saturday in Meadowvale.
Well done to U21 Footballers who beat BallyBoden in the 1st round
of the Championship on Saturday last. They now meet Thomas Davis in
the next round.
Great result by Dublin South Colleges in winning the Leinster League
Final, Senior A against Kilkenny CBS by 4 pts yesterday. Congratulations
to manager Shane O'Brien and Cuala minor stars Colm O'Farrell, Sean
Barron, Rory Cole, Mark Schutte, Packie Holden and Eoin Cronin who
finish a fine hurling year with Leinster Medals. Eoin came off the
bench to score 4 points. Well done lads.
Hard luck to the Minor "B" Footballers who were knocked-out
of the Championship having put on a brave performance against a stylish
"A" side from Castleknock.

loads of stuff that every aspiring player, manager and parent would
look great in :-).

held on Saturday January 17th 2009. Paudie Butler will deliver a Juvenile

into the Celebrity Bainisteoir TV Programme. This competition is endorsed
by the GAA and Nicky Brennan himself will make the draw in Croke Park.
The "Bainisteoir" is unknown to us and he/she will be introduced
to the Team next Wednesday at 2pm in Hyde Park. Members are invited
to attend the introduction outside the dressing rooms in Hyde Park.
Should be great fun!
Lastly, here is a unique opportunity. Sile Keogh and some Cuala members
have come together in singing old favourites of theirs to create a
Charity CD in aid of the club and worthwhile projects in Africa involving
Mary O'Giollán and family. A great night of recording recently
resulted in a lovely CD which now needs some listeners! The CD costs
a mere €10 and some of the tracks will evoke many memories for
long-standing members familiar with such anthems as our president
Jimmy Doyle's "Cool Water" or Dayo's version of Roy Orbesons
"You've Got It". Songs were dedicated to members past and
present.Sile's own dedication is to her father Fechin Nea who was
one of the earliest members of the club along with Tom Holden and
Mick Dunphy. Launch night is December 20th and we hope to have pre-booked
sales so you can collect your Cuala CD on that weeekend.
20/11/08
Well its been an eventful week - we were beaten on the score
board in the Minor final but by the minimum margin:
Our Minors gave a terrific display last Sunday in the MHC final against
Ballyboden. Despite very soft conditions, a great game of skillful
and tough hurling was served up. B'Boden had the better of the early
exchanges but it was Cuala who made the most of their chances going
into an early lead. Boden pulled back and the teams exchanged scores
up till halftime. In the 2nd half B'Boden pulled into a 5 point lead
and looked to be heading for a resounding victory. But our boys pulled
the deficit in and looked to have the upper hand in the last 5 minutes.
It was stalemate as the clock ticked down, and when Boden missed some
scoreable frees and it looked like it would go to a replay. Then Boden
were awarded an injury time free, which neither set of supporters
could find reason for. Free was pointed and game over - but the spirit,
skill and downright bloodymindedness of the Cuala lads left us all
feeling extremely proud. They left the field to a huge ovation and
should be very proud of their display. Hard luck lads but you did
your club and yourselves proud!
Despite a terrific display by the U12 (1996) girls football
team in the D2 Shield Final last Sunday, it wasn't enough against
a very strong Clontarf team. Although beaten in the end it was a great
performance by all the team and they still celebrated the end of the
competitive season in style back in the club after the game with pizzas
and a re-run of the game on DVD.
Following their football exploits over the past few weeks, the U12
(1996) are back to camogie this Saturday
in an indoor 7 a side 4 team tournament in Crumlin. Check the calendar
on the Girls juvenile page on the website for full details.
U7 ('01) & U8 ('00) girls are in action this Saturday in a football
mini blitz against St Johns Ballinteer in Meadowvale at 10.00am. Check
the calendar on the Girls juvenile page on the website for full details.
Well done to the Cuala U14 Lady Footballers who had
a great win over St Brigids in the Division 1 U14 Shield at the weekend.
A well deserved win over the team that beat us in the Feile Semi-Final.
An outstanding performance from the entire team!
Cuala will be selling Christmas trees in Hyde Park
on Saturday 13th December from 9am to 6pm. This is an important fundraiser
for the U8 Boys who start playing in juvenile leagues in February.
Folks, we have had a number of complaints from Loreto
and environs about the non-adherence to the parking rules. This is
a great facility and we should respect the owners and residents. Here
are the rules again
- please make every effort to ocmply or we will be in danger of losing
access to this wonderful facility.
Cuala have been nominated for the 'Best Hurling Club in Dublin'
award in the Friends of Dublin Hurling Presentation dinner in Malahide
Castle this coming Friday.
Hard luck to the U21 hurlers who bowed out of the
championship against a very strong Lucan team last Saturday.
Thanks to all who organised and attended the Feile Team Quiz
Night last Saturday and to Quizmaster Brendan Stanley for
a great job. Nearly €900 was raised in an very enjoyable evening.
However there is still only 4.54litres in a gallon!!
Well done to the Intermediate footballers who had
a good victory against BallyBoden last weekend and also to the Junior
footballers who were victorious over St. Margarets.
13/11/08
Thanks to all who have come to SGMs and AGMs - its encouraging
to see good participation in this important annual gatherings:
Unlucky weekend for the juvenile girls last week with the U12 (1996)
D2 Shield Final against Clontarf and the U10 (1998) camogie game
against St Annes being postponed due to the weather. The U12 Final
is re-fixed for 1.30pm this Sunday, venue to be confirmed.
The Girls U10 (1998) footballers were also very unlucky to be beaten
by a last minute goal by St Maurs in the D2 Shield Final. Despite
the outcome it was a great performance which was celebrated in style
back in the club after the game with pizzas and a re-run of the
game on DVD.
The Girls U13s , 14s and 16s footballers are all playing in finals
this weekend. U13 Girls are in Div 2 Championship final this Sunday
against Ballinteer. The game is played at Lucan Sarsfields (12th
Lock) with a 1:30pm throw-in and then back to Cuala afterwards.
U14 girls are playing St.Brigids in the Div 1 Shield Final in Portmarnock
on Saturday with a 1:45pm throw-in. U16 Girls are playing Clontarf
in Div 2 Shield Final in Rush on Sunday at 2pm.
O'Donovan Rossa from Belfast came down to Cuala to play the U13
Dublin Hurling Champions in a friendly last week-end. Cuala came
out the better of a tough encounter. Rossa have taken scalps from
Na Piarsigh, Blackrock, Ballyboden and Crokes on previous trips
south so well done lads!.
U13s Boys running a Family Quiz in Cuala on Saturday night in the
Bar to raise funds for the Feile year ahead. Teams of four €20

the 1995 group would like to order a Féile top, please contact
Jenny on 086 8417635 or Zita on 087 2235677. Its a windcheater type
and will cost €30
Minor Hurling A Championship final fixed for Sunday in O'Toole
Park at 12:30pm vs Ballyboden. Best of luck to Brendan, Denis, Packie
and all the lads. This is a big one folks - we need every able-bodied
supporter we can find - dont miss it! Please note that the mentors,
players and parents are invited back to the club for light refreshments
after the game.
Both U21 teams are in action in the championship
on Saturday, the A team play Lucan away and the B team play their
replay against St. Peregrines in Blakestown at the same time.
Last week to get in your photos for the "..
seen wearing Cuala top in interesting places" competition
Please see attached Cuala Player
Pathway document from the Coaching Dept. This should make interesting
reading for people involved in teams of all ages.
Best of luck to the Intermediate and Junior Footballers who play
Ballyboden and St.Margarets respectively. Both team are looking
to continue their push for promotion.
Note Voting procedures for upcoming AGM will be posted on the Website.
(Hint: If you can get through these - consider applying for a place
in Mensa!). Well done to Michael Goodwin who obviously missed his
calling as an election agent !
06/11/08
The US election excitement might be over but we have some
electing of our own to do over the coming weeks. First to the team
news:
Team of the week are our Minor Hurlers who beat a fancied Kilmacud
Crokes team last Sunday in the MHC A Championship to reach the final
against Ballyboden on 16th November (Parnell Park?). On a scoreline
of Crokes 2-9 to Cuala 3-12 the result was comprehensive! So all
roadworthy vehicles should be readied, all red and white flag sourced,
jerseys washed, klaxons tested and supporters rested for what promises
to be a great day out. More details next week.
The Juvenile Girls competitive season draws to an end this weekend
with two titles up for grabs. The U10s (1998) footballers play the
D2 Shield Final on Saturday against St. Maurs at 1.30pm in O'Tooles.
Please support the girls as they try to add the Shield title to
their D2 league title. A social event will be held in the Club after
the final to mark the end of the season. On Sunday our U12 (1996)
footballers play in their D2 Shield Final against Clontarf at 1.30pm
in Silver Park. Please support the girls as they try to go one better
than last year when they lost in the final to the same opposition.
A social event will also be held in the Club after this final to
mark the end of the season for both the 1996 and 1997 football and
camogie panels.
U13 Girls are playing in the Div 2 Championship final this Saturday
against Ballinteer St.Johns. The game will be played at the Lucan
Sarsfields GAA (12th Lock) with 1:30pm thrown-in. Good luck Girls.
U13B Footballers won a crucial league match last Saturday with a
super all-round performance against Naomh Barrog. Next Saturday,
they play St.Patrick's Palmerstown in the semi-final of the Shield
at 3pm Thomastown. All support welcome as the lads attempt to reach
their 2nd of 3 finals in a month.
Well done to U13 hurlers Kevin Killion, Andrew Murphy, Jack Behan,
Colm O'Luing, Kyle Braine and Sean Treacy who were part of the Dublin
U13 Development squad who had a comprehensive victory over Kildare
on Sunday last.
The boys U14A Footballers were involved in a very exciting league
match against Naomh Mearnog in Thomastown last Saturday. While the
Cuala lads have their Div 1 status already secured for next year,
Nh Mearnog required the victory in their attempt to avoid relegation.
In the end Cuala lost by 1 point with a final scoreline of Cuala
2-12 Nh Mearnog 3-10.

23 October 2008
Pride of place goes to our U13 hurlers who've gone
and done it again - winning the Div 1 Hurling Championship for the
2nd year in a row by beating Kilmacud Crokes in the final game. There
was some controversy when these teams met last year over disputed
goals etc, but this year no video analysis is required and the Cuala
lads ran out deserving winners. The full match report is on the website
so check it out.Well done lads - a tremendous achievement and well
done to the management team of Braine, Treacy, Gibney and O'Sullivan.
A good last weekend overall with our U11 (1997s) camogie
team finishing their league campaign with a big win over local rivals
Kilmacud Crokes, our U10 footballers (1998s) with
a big win away against Lucan Sarsfields in the quater final of the
Shield competition and our U12 D2 (1996s) girls reaching the final
of the football Shield competition with a narrow victory away against
St. Margarets Round Towers. Unfortunately, our U12 D3 (1997)
girls were beaten despite a wholehearted performance against
Innisfails in their football Shield quarter final. No competitive
games this weekend although our U8 (2000) girls
are entered in a camogie Blitz in the Phoenix Park on Sunday.
The U10's sent out a good team to Kilmacud last
Sunday for what turned out to be a magnificent afternoon of hurling.
On a wet and stormy afternoon it was straight into action against
a Kilmacud Crokes team who caught Cuala a bit cold, winning 1-4
to 1-1 with the Cuala scores coming from Joe Mahoney and Emmet Murphy.
Kilmacud went on to win the blitz outright. Next up was a date with
the might of former Cork champions Newtownshandrum, home of the
famous Ben and Jerry O'Connor. A point down Cuala got a penalty
with two minutes to go. The defence lined the goalmouth as Cuala
mentors whispered words of encouragement to Diarmait Maas as he
composed himself. "Take the point and get the draw" was
one opinion but how many times will we have the chance to claim
a scalp as prized as this. Diarmait looked, stepped up, raised the
sliotar in a perfect arc and drove the ball into the back of the
net. Brave, accurate, and a winning move that will live long in
the mind of those who were there to witness it. Tiredness kicked
in for third match against Gorey going down 1-5 to 1-1, but we came
out hard and fast in our last game against Lucan and blew them away
with scores from Fionn O'Drisceoil, Jack Hartnett, Rory McMahon,
Fionn Myres and Emmet Murphy in a 1-5 to 0-1 victory to send us
home tired but happy five hours after arriving. Kilmacud were perfect
hosts with sausage and chips for the lads (of all ages) and a special
plaque which team captain for the Lucan game, Stephen McDonnell
proudly held aloft. Special thanks to the lads who gave their all,
to the parents who supported them and especially to those who came
along to support the team even though their own lads hadn't made
it on this occasion.
Cuala U11A and B Hurlers defeated by Fingallians
at Clonkeen last Saturday. Great performances put in by a large
number of players. Weather permitting, there will be a hurling and
football skills competition at Clonkeen this Saturday.
Well done to the U12 Hurlers who recorded another
strong win against a fancied Whitehall team last Saturday in Clonkeen.

at 9.30pm on Tuesday, November 4th. All age groups need to be represented
and to submit their report for the Juvenile AGM which takes place
in the Cuala Hall at 8.30pm on Tuesday, November 11th.
Congrats to the U16 Hurlers on winning the B Shield
Final last Saturday. Playing in Shankill against Commercials, the
Cuala lads showed a lot of class, particularly in the 1st half,
and excellent defensive qualities in the 2nd half to withstand a
spirited fight back by the opposition. Cuala ran out 10 point winners
on a score line of 3-11 to 2-4.
Best of luck to the Senior Hurlers who play St.
Judes in Belfield at 3PM this Saturday in their final Championship
Play-off game. All support welcome.
October Coaching Newsletter attached - essential
reading for coaches and mentors of all ages.

St.Johns and K.Crokes last Saturday.
Good luck to the U10 hurlers who will be playing
in an All-Ireland competition featuring Na Piarsigh of Cork and

next.
Well done to the U12s who had a good victory against
Ballyboden in Div2 football last Saturday. They now head the league
and are itching to get back to Div1 football.
Well done also to
the U13s footballers against Clontarf.
Best of luck to the U13 hurlers who play Kilmacud
Crokes in the Div1 Championship final next weekend. Match fixed
for 4pm and all support most welcome.
The U14As had a good win vs Whitehall while the
U14B Footballers had a very close match vs Croi Ro Naofa
last Saturday. This was a crucial game to keep in contention for
the league title. However when Cuala keeper Conor Bass made a crucial
save with a few minutes to go, the ref awarded a highly controversial
penalty which was scored to leave a two point lead for Croi. Cuala
bombarded the Croi net but were unable to break down their defence
in the dying minues.
Well done to the Girls U13 team on reaching the
Final Div 2 championship. The girls beat St. Anne's by a 2 point
margin in the semi-final in Meadowvale last Sunday in a very close
game. The game was level with 5 minutes remaining but points by
Amy Bell and Fiona Craddock secured victory. Fiona was the captain
on the day and had an outstanding game.

defeated in the Championship by Trinity Gaels.
Well done to the Senior hurlers who recorded a
good victory over Naomh Mearnog on Saturday afternoon in the Championship
play-offs.
Hard luck to the Junior C hurlers who were narrowly
defeated by Erin's Isle in the Championship final in O' Toole Park
last Sunday. Despite a gallant performance and not much luck, Isles
ran out stronger in the end. The Cuala team was populated predominantly
by Minors (some who had already played Minor championship in the
morning) and U21s, and did very well against an experienced Isles
outfit. Great performances - check out the photos on the website.
Training under lights has commenced in Loreto this
week. Remember no boots - runners only and please respect the neighbours
and hosts.
Find attached registration form for the upcoming Cuala Mid-term
camp. All information is contained therein.

course starting on Nov 3rd. Any one interested should let
Caroline Kenny(Cuala GPO) know asap.

Top billing to the Junior footballers who
beat St.Vincent in O'Toole Park on Saturday last by 1 point. Check
out the website for the full match report and pictures. Well done
lads - a great achievement.
And just to show we publish the defeats
as well as the victories - bad weekend last week for the
Cuala Girls with losses in all 4 Championship matches.
On Saturday there was a heartbreak for the U12 Camogie team, who
unluckily lost their sem-final to a last minute point by Erin Go
Bragh in extra time. U10 footballers bowed out of the championship
when losing to a very strong O'Tooles side later the same day. Things
went from bad to worse on Sunday, with both U12 Football teams beaten
by St. Maurs and Ballyboden despite good performances. All 3 football
team have a good chance of progressing in the football Shield competitions
however. Football shield competition to commence weekend of 18th
October. Final U11 Camogie league game of the season this Saturday
against Kilmacud Crokes in Meadowvale 10:30am.
On better news, the U13A Hurlers had a fine win
over St. Vincents last Saturday in the semi-final of the Hurling
Championship. In a keenly contested match, both sides served up
a fine display of stickwork, with the Cuala boys winning by a narrow
4 points. Cuala now play Kilmacud Crokes in the County A Championship
final this Saturday. The county finalists are Sean Gibney, Conor
O'sullivan, Kevin Killian,Sean Drummond, Jack Behan, Cian Byrne,
Sean O'Braonain, Andrew Murphy, Colm O'Luing, Kyle Brain, Sean Treacy,
Killian Sheanon, Gavin Nolan, Sean Dowling, Luc O'Giollain, Eoin
O'Dormain and Liam Bermingham - with a little help from Jake Malone.
THanks to great support who travelled to the match, much appreciated.
Well done all.
Well done also to the U13Bs who are in the Shield
final after a good win over Naomh Fionnbarra.

that then if you can!

asked to send a representative.
U14B footballer got their league campaign underway last weekend after
a long break. This was a top of the table clash vs Man O'War and after
a very close game came out losers. Cuala almost snatched the points
when Conor Bass got the ball in front of goal in the dying seconds
but his shot went agonisingly wide to leave the margin at 2 point.
Minor A footballers had a good win over Thomas Davis last weekend
while the Minor B Footballers drew with St. Oliver Plunketts.
Junior C Hurlers had a great win against Round Towers in the championship
semi final on Sunday last in Shankill and are now in the final. A
finely balanced mix of wisdom (old age!) and youth (who did all the
running) did the trick. Shay Hayes, Eddie Gough were the management
maestros while Denis Byrne transformed from coaching guru to netminder
to conduct a fine win.
Well done too to the Senior hurlers who beat St. Brigids in O'Toole
Park on Saturday evening.
The Camogie season has ended but players are reminded that training
continues from next Tuesday 7th Oct in the Hall starting at 7pm.

Judes last Sunday in the league.
Massive weekend for the Junior Footballers who play their much awaited
Championship final next Saturday in O'Toole park at 16:00 All support
most welcome.
A mention about last weeks Coaching session with Paudie Butler. We
had 40 coaches on the night and the session was focussed on fundamental
skills of hurling. It was an excellent session, informative, entertaining
and hugely motivating. We hope to have Paudie back soon to conduct
a session on player development. These sessions are beneficial for
coaches of all age group and both codes. Coaching Dept will produce
fact-sheet and session plan by next week.

Girls Open Night a great success - Despite the poor weather, last
Friday's girls open night was a huge success with over 25 girls in
attendance, including almost 50 new girls. Well done to all concerned,
particularly as the contingency plan had to be invoked at very short
notice moving the event indoors. We're still looking for more players
so check the calendar on the Girls Juvenile page on the website for
full details of contacts and training for the various age groups.

in the All-Ireland JFC semi-final at 1.30pm.Best
of luck Michael.
The Camogie girls delivered their best display of
the season with a fine win over Setanta last Tuesday 8th. The scoreline
of 7-5 to 0-2 in Cuala's favour would mislead people into thinking
this was a walkover but this could not be further from the truth.
Every score was hard earned and the game was hotly contested from
start to finish. Next on the agenda are away games on 15th against
Naomh Mearnog and a home game on the 17th against Oliver Plunketts.
There are many jobs that need to be done in the club

kick-boxing tournament will be staged in the hall Saturday

Cuala Camogie girls played Ballinteer St. Johns in
Shanganah on Tuesday evening. On a wet, wild and windy night the girls
played some great camogie and , for a change, actually went ahead!
St.Johns however had drawn level before halftime. Management earned
their crust by making a few positional changes and they worked a treat

The Cuala Mini All Ireland is in full swing - with fixtures on Thursday
June 19th, Saturday June 21st(tbc) ,Tuesday June 24th, Thursday 26th
with the final on Saturday June 28th to mark the new dressing rooms.
Isnt it great to see a full field of kids playing sport! Parents,
the organisers and mentors need a lot of help to set up and break
down goals and pitches so please "pitch" in.
Hard Luck to the Cuala U12 hurlers who played in the Div 1 county
semi final vs St.Vincents. Despite missing many regulars and after
a poor start (behind by 9 points), Cuala clawed their way back into
the match to draw level at full-time. Cue extra time where once again
at the mid-point it was all square. Alas two sharp goals from Vinnies
sealed the fate of the Cuala lads but it was the never say die spirit
which was really a sight to behold. A great sporting game to watch
and a credit to both teams. Well done lads - great performance all
round and keep hurling over the summer!
Great result for the U14A Footballers with a fine win against Na Fianna
on Sunday 15th June – Cuala 4-8 , Na Fianna 1-15. With eight
panel members not available due to injury, holidays and attending
Irish College, every one of the players available raised their game,
after a shaky start, and put in sterling performances. A special word
of thanks to the U14B players, Shane Kelly and Dylan Kennedy and U13A
players Cillian Sheanon and Andrew Murphy each played a very important
role in securing the victory. This is the last match before the summer
break and a great way to finish.
Five Cuala minors in the Dublin Panel to play Wexford next Sunday
in Croke park - Simon Timlin, Colm O'Farrell, Conor Gough,Colum Sheanon
and Mark Schutte. Good luck lads.
Camogie players are reminded that season resumes next week after the
Leaving Cert hiatus. Cuala Camogie girls have a home fixture in Shankill
next Tuesday 24th against Ballinteer St. Johns, throw in at 7:15pm.
Great weekend for Cuala Adult Footballer with all 3 teams progressing
in their Championship matches. The Intermediates beat St. Pats on
Friday last, Juniors beat St.Olafs on Sunday moning while Junior-2s
had a great win over last years finalists Castleknock in Shankill.Well
done to all involved.
Cuala Coaching June newsletter is attached - the last until after
the summer break. Please feedback if you find these useful - try out
the drills in the garden with the kids. |

Mixed fortunes for the girls juvenile teams last weekend. Big win
on Saturday for U12 camogie team against Lucan Sarsfields but U11
camogie team beaten by a very strong Erins Isle. On Sunday an understrength
U12 A Team were beaten by league leaders Castleknock but the result
of the weekend had to be the U12 B teams great victory against Foxrock
Cabinteely by 3-8 to 1-4 in Kilbogget Park in their final game of
the season. The team made up primarily of U11s lost their opening
three games of the league but refused to be disheartened and ended
up winning their last three. Well done to all involved. Full match
reports on www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls.
Camogie players are reminded that training continues every Tuesday
in Shanganah at 6:45pm.No matches until leaving cert is over.

Well done to all players involved in Cumann na mBunscoil
finals in Parnell Park on Wednesday. Scoil Lorcain
were in the Junior final as well as in the Senior final where they
played Johnstown NS. Scoil Lorcain were unlucky in
the junior final while in the Senior final Johnstown were the stronger
team. The big winner was Cuala - with all the players bar one in the
Senior final coming from Cuala. Well done to all boys and congratulations
to Johnstown players.
Next Wed, June 4th, Coaching Dept will be holding
the second night of the foundation coaching course in Cuala. Any person
hoping to work on the summer camp should attend. Contact Ken or Caroline
for more details.
The Summer Camp and Advanced VHI Camp application
forms will be soon distributed to all teams and available to download
off the club website. We will also have employment application forms
to download soon. Thanks to all the coaches and schools who were involved
in the end of year school blitz competitions. They were a huge success
and huge credit is due to Ken Fitzgerald and Caroline
Kenny for their efficient running of the events.
The First Cuala Juvenile Night at the Dogs was a
runaway success last Thursday week with over 100 club members turning
out at Shelbourne Park and a princely sum raised across the different
age groups in the Boys Juvenile section. The mentors from the Feile
winning U14Bs were on hand to present the trophy to winning owner
of the Townlink Construction-sponsored big race on the card. The victory
of the dog was nothing however, compared to the celebrations from
the Cuala crew as the winning ticket in the big draw was held tight
by Nuala McAdam. Nuala was on hand to cheer home
the correct finishing order from first to sixth. She pockets the prize
of €2000 but the main winners on the night were the club as whole.
This was a big success for a first time event and well done to all
those too numerous to mention who played a big part in driving ticket
sales and sponsorship! Now, Nuala where are you taking Peadar for
the summer hols?
Congrats to Damien Byrne, Mick Kirwin
and Oisin Gough for the parts they played in the
Dublin Senior Hurlers triumph over Westmeath last
weekend. Could this be start of a run? Leinster semifinal will be
on the 14th June vs Wexford so put the date in your diary.
Congratulations also to Fintan O'Brien goalkeeper
with the Senior hurlers who won the Dublin Senior
Puc Fada competition and now goes on to represent Dublin in Leinster.
Pity there isnt an "Imreoir Fáda" competition too
- he'd win that by about half a foot!
Well done to Cuala players Paul Schutte, Oisin
Gough, Shane Murphy and Scott O'Brien
who represented Dublin in the U21 Championship
against Laois last night. The Dubs won 18 points to 1-12.
Well done also to Cuala footballers Darren McBrien,
Michael Fitzsimons, John Sheanon, Robert
Reid who have been called up to the Dublin Junior
Football squad for upcoming clash vs Cavan.
Pitch in Hyde Park will be out of commission while
the drainage works and pitch extension are underway. Tangible progress
can be seen in Thomastown dressing room site and we expect the dressing
rooms to arrive in the next week, while back-nets in Shankill should
save a fortune in sliotars..
Patrons are asked to please respond to the letter from Pres
Glasthule Development Committee on request for financial
support.
The Cuala Golf Classic is coming up soon on the 13th
of June - always a great day out and Patsy Greene can guarantee the
weather.See attachment for details.
Lastly, for all the Dubs Fans see attachment from O'Neills which might
be of interest.

Its been a busy few weeks for the U8s (2000) - the
girls have had blitzes in the Phoenix Park in camogie and in Bushy
Park vs Templeogue Synge St in football. The boys are in the middle
of a home and away arrangement with Ballybode - football and hurling
in Hyde Park last Saturday and again at Pc Ui Mhurchu this week. Great
displays all round and great support from the parents of all the kids.
The 1999 girls played local rivals Foxrock Cabinteely
in some friendly football matches last Thursday. Both teams played
matches with 100%. Well done to all the girls.
Well done to the Junior and Intermediate
footballers who had good league wins this week. They have
more league games at the weekend, Inters play St. Peregrines on Saturday
evening, while the Juniors play Parnell's Sunday morning. Both games
are on in Shankill. Also best of luck to Neil Reild as he recuperates
from a nasty shoulder injury. Adult hurlers
had mixed fortunes last weekend, with the Seniors and Junior As losing.
The Junior-Cs had a great win against RoundTowers with a band of youth
and (ahem!) maturity. Great displays from the younger players including
Eoghan Cronin, Kevin O'Shea and man of the match display from Rory
Cole.Well done also to Robert Walshe, David Maloney and Oisin Whelan,
All Dancers - the final Ceile before summer takes
place in the Club on Saturday night. Cuala Set Dancers with friends

Cuala U14Bs became the first boys team to bring back
a Football Feile Championship to the club in Parnell
Park last Saturday week. Cuala took on a fancied St. Vincents side
who appeared to be a much bigger and more physical side. Both teams,
however, were well matched in football terms and traded points in
the early stages of the game, Scott Curtis scored first for Cuala
with a long range point that dropped short of the goal but the St.Vincents
keeper misjudged the bounce and it went over the bar. Scott scored
again for Cuala with a brilliantly worked point from a 40mtr free.
Scott played the free short to Peter Gahan and ran on to receive the
ball back and slot it over the bar. St. Vincents were working hard
against the breeze and traded points to Scott's 2 and it looked like
Cuala were not going to take the advantage of the breeze in the first
half until a great opportunist goal from Conor Lehane. Following a
long range shot that the St. Vincents keeper could not hold onto,
Conor ran on and palmed the ball to the net.
Within minutes Anthony Higgens scored the point of the match from
a very tight angle and slotted it very neatly over the bar to leave
Cuala 1.03 to 0.02 up at half-time. St. Vincents made some very telling
changes at half-time and came back out a much stronger side and certainly
tested the resolve of Cuala. The wind seemed to pick up significantly
and Cuala had to withstand attack after attack but the Cuala full-back
line of Shane Irwin, Jack 'Butsy' Butler and Jacob Brennan were magnificent
in clearing the ball back out of defence. St. Vincents now scored
3points with no reply from Cuala to close the score to one point with
about 10 mins to go. Cuala however mounted an attack that resulted
in Conor Tiernan being fouled in the square and the resulting penalty
was scored by a very cool-headed Conor himself. St. Vincents came
back at Cuala and scored a point to leave just one goal in the difference,
this is how it remained for the rest of the game with Cuala soaking
up the pressure. The stronger breeze later in the game may have worked
in Cuala's favour as St. Vincents were kicking wides instread of dropping
the ball short for their forwards to deal with. The few that were
short were dealt with by a very competent Shane Kelly in goal who
was very definitely "Man of the Match", with a display of
catching and passing that Stephen Cluxton would have been proud of.
Another strong contender for Man of the match was Conor Tiernan who
gave a selfless and spirited display in the second half with his tracking
back and getting in tackles when the going was tough. Other notable
players were Cuala half-backline of Robert McMahon, David Murphy and
Luke Bailey, 2 centre fielders Scott Curtis and Peter Gahan, centre
forward Dylan Kennedy, wing forward Seamus Ryan and full forward Kevin
Roche. A tremendous win and well done once again to all players and
coaches Kevin Kennedy, Ciaran Irwin, John Ryan and Barry Tiernan for
all the hard work put on.
It was a great weekend for the girls juvenile section
with big wins on Saturday for the U11 and U12
camogie teams and the U10 football team.
The U11s, fielding no fewer than 2 U10s, 2 U9s and
1 U8, beat Kilmacud Crokes in camogie by 7 goals to 1 in Silver Park
and the U12 camogie team followed up with a 6 goals to 1 victory against
St. Oliver Plunketts in Martin Savage Park. It was then the turn of
the U10 footballers who finished their Div 2 South League campaign
as champions with a 100% record, 5 wins out of 5, beating Ballinteer
St. Johns 2-3 to 0-2 in Ballinteer.
Sunday saw the U10 camogie team make it two wins
out of two to date defeating Thomas Davis by 7 goals to 2 in Tallaght.
The U12 'A' football team then played out a thrilling draw 3-6 a piece
against a very strong St. Sylvesters team in Hyde Park. Finally, the
U12 'B' football team fought gallantly against unbeaten league leaders
Ballyboden St. Endas but lost out in the end. It was still a very
brave display from a team mainly comprised of U11s playing in an U12
league. See the Cuala website (www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls) for
full match reports and schedule of all games.
A special mention also for the following girls who featured in no
fewer than 3 games each for Cuala at the weekend due to an unusually
large number of absentees due to 1st Communions and Confirmations,
H. O'Dea, C. Sheehan, S. Ni Chuill, C. Reidy, J. Slowey and C. Ni
Gearailt and also for C. McKeown who played an incredible 4 games
for Cuala at the weekend scoring in each, with a final tally of 5-0
in camogie and 1-2 in football!
The girls juvenile section continues to go from strength
to strength but we are always on the lookout for more girls interested
in playing football and camogie. Beginners are particularly welcome
and we're still especially looking for girls born in 1997 (U11). 1996's
1997's and 1998's all train for camogie and football in Meadowvale
on Wednesdays at 6.30pm. Contact Fintan Quill for further details
086-8197352.

6:30pm in the league. The Junior A-Hurlers play their first championship
games also against O'Tooles on Saturday at 6:30 pm in Hyde Rd. Best

A great team performance saw Cuala U14Bs win their
Feile final against St. Vincents in Parnell Park last Saturday by
a scoreline of 2-03 to 0-06. A 2nd half penalty strike by half forward
Conor Tiernan proved the decisive score. Well done to all the players
and to management including Kevin Kennedy, Barry Tierney and Ciaran
Irwin, the entire club is very proud of you.
Well done to U10s (Grupa Glas) footballers who inflicted
a first defeat of the season on previously unassailable Ballyboden-1

U14Bs are in the Feile final on Saturday 3rd May
2:30pm in Parnell Park. Supporters are asked to bring as much colour,
support and noise to the panel of 24 players who have won some fantastic
games to reach this final against St.Vincents. Goodluck lads!
U14 Girls Feile took place last weekend and
the Cuala girls came first in their group in Division 1. They won
all three of their matches, the last a thriller against Ballyboden
which Cuala won by a point. The momentum was hard to carry into the
second day and Cuala lost out to St. Brigids in the semi-final. The
Ballyboden team went onto win the Division Feile :-(. Well done girls
- still a tremendous achievement.
Well done to the organising team for the Awards night
in Killiney Castle (Michael Goodwin, Breege
Dromgoole, Grainne O'Shea, Daragh
Bass to mention a few). It was a fantastic night all round
with the audio/visual tribute to the late Mick Holden
a special highlight. Senior hurlers
play O'Tooles in the League on Saturday at 6pm in Blumden drive -
all support welcome.
By now, many of you will have seen the warnings that have come in
relation to Sally Glen Rd (running alongside Thomastown).
Again, take note that the Gardai are checking that all parking regulations
are enforced along the road so please park correctly.
We have been advised by the Council that works on Thomastown
dressing-rooms should be completed within the next 6 weeks. We would
also ask club patrons to write to the Council Planning Office (Marine
Rd) in support of the proposed development in Hyde Park
of lights and a new pitch surface. THis is a vital piece of work for
our primary pitch.
Last chance to help out with advertising or sponsorship for the first
Cuala Night at the Dogs. Tickets for the event (May15th)
and for the Buster Draw (win €2000!) are on sale through any
Juvenile team mentors or Rob Hartnett on 086-3851955.
Two Cuala Adult members Patrick and Barry
Murdock are once again cycling the length of Ireland from

Senior hurlers play a critical Championship game this Sunday 27th
against 2006 County Champions Craobh Chiaran in O'Toole Park at
11am. All support is very welcome for what is a crucial game. (Note
there is a possibility this match could be moved to Saturday afternoon)
.
Please note that the Allianz National Football League Division 2
final between Dublin and Westmeath will take place on Saturday next
26th April in Navan at 7pm. There will be no advance sale of tickets
as cash will be taken at the turnstiles.
Camogie girls lost a hard fought battle against Oliver Plunketts
on Tuesday last going down 6-4 to 4-3. Next match will be at home
vs Naomh Mearnog on Tuesday 29th April. Training on Sunday in Shanganah
at 10am.
U12As footballers had a comprehensive win against Naomh Olaf last
Saturday, while the Bs had a well deserved victory over Kilmacud
Crokes. Paul Flynn had a fantastic game - an hour after making his
confirmation. I suppose we could call that divine inspiration.
And lastly, as if you didnt know, the Annual Awards Dinner is scheduled
for Saturday night in Killiney Castle. Tickets sales will be closing
Thursday 24th at10pm to allow table allocations etc to happen. Our
guest of honour will be Christy Cooney - president-elect of the

Following excellent turnouts and performances from 2000s (U-8) boys
in mini-blitz with Ballinteer and Clann na Gael in both hurling and
football over the last two weekends. I is the girls turn this weekend
with camogie games against Ballinteer SJ in Hyde Park on Saturday
morning.
The 1998s (U10s) parents AGM takes place in the bar this Friday the
18th. All 1998 parents should try and attend as these are important
sessions to understand whats happening and give feedback.
Tickets for the Cuala Night at the dogs on May 16th are now on sale
from Juvenile team mentors. If you cant make the event, be sure to
buy tickets for the Buster draw - someone will be €2000 richer!
By now, no doubt you all know that the Annual Awards Night is on Saturday
26th.Tickets going on sale from today! Prime Sponsor needed! Prizes
for raffle required. Follow the lead of Minister Mary Hanafin who
has kindly offered a dinner for 4 in Leinster House to be raffled
off on the night. So those of you who fancied themselves in the cut
and thrust of the Dáil - this is your (only) chance!
Well done to Intermediate Footballers who beat a strong St.Pats team
last night. They play again in a crucial league match against Clann
na Gael in Ringsend this Saturday at 18:30.
Well done also to the Senior Hurlers who beat St.Bridgets last weekend
and to the the Junior A and Cs who beat Craobh Ciarán and N.Olaf
respectively.
Congratulations to the U14B footballers and manager Ciaran Irwin who
have qualified for the Division 8 Feile Football Final on Saturday
3rd May by beating N.Mearnog by 8-06 to 0-02. Cuala were outstanding
with great displays from David Murphy, Jack'Butsie' Butler, Jacob
Brennan, Shane Irwin in the backline, Scott Curtis and Peter Gahan
in midfield, Dylan Kennedy and Conor Lehane in the forwards. Well
done lads - tremendous!
Ladies Football had a mixed week - with the U16s beating St.Maurs
and better performances from the U13s and U14s who both lost to St.
Sylvesters and Naomh Barróg respectively. The Adult ladies
lost away to St. Peregrines a closely fought game. Keep at it ladies
and better luck next week.
Well done to our 4 minor lads Conor Gough, Simon Timlin, Colm Sheanon
and Colm O'Farrell (who was erroneously omitted from last weeks newsletter!)
who played for the Dublin minors in the draw against Offaly last weekend.
The Camogie girl had their 3rd game of the season on Tuesday last
with a draw against Setanta. This team definitely seems to enjoy torturing
the poor old manager (Miceál Priest), allowing the opposition
to fly into a strong lead before reeling them slowly in and putting
the equalising point over with the last free of the game. Next game
is at home to Oliver Plunketts on Tuesday 22nd at 6:45pm, training
on Sundays at 10 in Shanganah.
Don't forget the Academy Race night on Saturday 19th at 8pm in the
Cuala Hall. Admission is free, spot prizes, Tote betting, full bar,
great night guaranteed. Get the babysitter tonight and get yourself
down on Saturday to support the future stars of Cuala.
Lastly, please see the attached monthly Cuala Coaching Newletter.
Well done again to the coaching dept! |
