18 Dec 2009
Well we got a nice early Chrismas present thanks to our U21 footballer
who are champions of Dublin!
Cuala are Dublin U21 Football Champions after 33 years. They defeated
Crokes 2-7 to 0-6 last Sunday to win in some style. After two early
goals from Paul Schutte and John Sheanon, our boys were in front
the whole way and a much vaunted Crokes team never really got going.
Crokes too were hampered by a nasty collision between defenders
Rory O'Carroll and Kevin Nolan but the Cuala boys were truly outstanding.
The backs were dogged, the mid-field soared high and the forwards
were sublime. Particularly in the first half the inter-play between
the mid-field and the forwards was top-notch and Crokes defence
was breached time and time again. In the second-half the Cuala backs
really showed their mettle and some outstanding defending from Michael
Fitzsimons and Oisin Gough meant that Crokes were living on scraps.
Some great photos on the web www.cualagaa.ie but one attached below
for the mantlepiece.
Here's one for the Christmas stocking. Conor Bass filmed the Under
21 final over Crokes last Sunday and is now taking orders from anyone
who wants a copy. Cost €5 and to order send Conor a text on
0860750687 with your name and the number of DVDs you want.
Over 160 kids, parents and friends packed the Hall for the 1998’s
Pre X-Factor Christmas Quiz last Saturday. Questions were answered,
songs were sung and even a few jigs were danced before the main
prize was handed out to Tiernan Lane and Brian Coronella (and various
family members). Well done to Eibhlín Loughman and her band
of industrious elves for bringing the whole thing together.
The U11 Hurlers are keeping things going right to the wire. They
will play their final league division one match against Na Fianna
on Saturday.
The Juvenile registration day has been set for Saturday morning
January 9th at the Club. All the juvenile age groups, boys and girls,
will have representatives and mentors on hand to receive applications
and renewals. There will be a strict enforcement of registration
before being able to play or train in 2010 so it is strongly advised
that you make your way to the Club between 0930 and 1130 on that
first Saturday back after the Christmas break. Renewal forms will
be circulated in advance by team members. All those registering
on the day can benefit from the fact that cheques written on the
9th will be collectively put into the bank on January 29th. Academy
children have already registered for 2010 in September of this year.
The 2009 U21 Hurling competition will resume in February where our
lads are in the sem-final against Ballyboden.
The Ladies Lunch scheduled for Jan. 8th is being postponed and a
new date (which will be scheduled at a more convenient time for
many of our attendees) will be finalised in the New Year. In the
meantime we will issue refunds via the team mentors. Thanks to all
who have supported the event. For any queries please contact Fiona,
086 758 2059 or Barbara 086 824 5645.
There will be no Newsletter next week, will return again in early
January.
10 Dec 2009
Unless you've moved to Mars to avoid the budget, you will
know that on Sunday next 13th December at 11am Cuala are in the
U21 A Championship Football Final v Kilmacud Crokes in O'Toole Park.
Read on:
No matter what's thrown at this Cuala Under 21 football team they
always find more. In the 1/4 final they were a point down deep into
injury time only to drive up the field and grab a goal that set
up last Saturday's semi final meeting with Na Fianna. Having contested
the last three minors finals, Na Fianna were always going to be
tough opposition and so it proved. With 10 minutes to go, Cuala
were dominate leading 7-5 but a breakaway from Na Fianna earned
them a penalty which they stuck away brilliantly. The next phase
of play saw Na Fianna kick a massive point to go two up , in a low
scoring game it seemed the pendulum had swung firmly in Na Fianna's
favour. What happened next was just typical of the spirit of this
Cuala team. They played some magnificent football to kick 6 points
to Na Fianna's 1. Winning out on a score line of 13 points to 1-7.
So Sunday coming we are in our first Under 21 Football final for
34 years.
Now for the history lesson. In 1975 we beat Erins Hope ( St Pats
Drumcondra ) in the U21 final. Pat Sheanon (RIP) was the manager
back then , and he had 2 grandsons on the pitch last Saturday in
the semi. Indeed that 75' team was littered with famous Cuala names.
The late , great Mick Holden was centre back , Flipper Dolphin and
Brian Murdock worked the wings tirelessly , whilst SpeedyJohn Sheanon
operated at 15. Shay Hayes kept the goal , Eamon Breannan was full
back and el capitano, and you would have done well to get a handy
score of the ferocious competitor that was Maurice Johnston. A lot
of similarities have been noted with the team of '75, but none more
than the attitudes and spirit both teams showed. Whatever was thrown
at the team of '75 they always had more, the same can be said for
the team of 2009. Sunday 11am O'Toole Park - All Cuala support welcome.
The juvenile girls annual awards evening was held last Sunday in
the Cuala Hall and was a fitting end to another very successful
year. Over 250 were in attendance to see the U11s receive their
football shield winners medals, the U12s receive their football
championship medals and the U13s receive their football shield runners
up medals and camogie league runners up medals. The U9s and U10s
also received awards and the U8s were formally welcomed into the
girls juvenile section of the club receiving their Academy 'graduation'
certificates. Special thanks to the special guest presenters, Dublin
intercounty camogie player Jean Murphy, Dublin's Ladies football
captain Denise Masterson and Cuala's own intercounty stars of 2009,
Leinster football winners, Conor O'Brien and Mark Schutte and hurling
All Star nominee David Treacy.

place at Cuala between 9.15 and 11.30 on Saturday January 9th. Registration

are encouraged to put this date in their sparkling new year diaries
as we look to take away the burden of registration from hard pressed
team managers. Cheques received on the day will be lodged on January
29th to provide some relief from the post Christmas financial blues.
Remember any player not registered in advance of the first games
on January 30th will not be permitted to line out for the club due
to issues of insurance.

3 Dec 2009
Hard luck on the U11 Lions footballers who just missed out in their
rearranged play off for the Division 1A Title. It was a brave performance
on an unfamiliar all weather surface but just came up short. Still,
plenty to aim at for next year.
Well done to the U13A Footballers who won the Division 2 football
League by beating Lucan and in the process, secured promotion to
Division One for next year. It looked like things were going Lucan's
way for most of the game as they kept their noses in front from
the start. Having beaten them the week before to draw level on points
they were determined not to be turned over by Cuala again. With
about 3 minutes left, two points down, Jack McCabe hit the net and
we were infront. This was a magnificent victory in a very tight
game against a physically much bigger team. But the spirit shown
by Cuala lads was just a sight to behold. Congratulations lads.
Team: Karl Wolahan, Cathal MacDonald, Dylan Treacy, Matthew Kiernan,
Jake Malone, Karl Schutte, Des Markey, Con O'Callaghan,Donal Lane,
Dara Twomey, Eoghan O'Naoire, Liam Boland, Daithi O'Murchu,Shane
Murphy, Diarmuid Sexton,Luke Allen, Jack McCabe. Superb!
The juvenile girls section is finally winding down for Christmas.
The postponed U13s final camogie play-off game and final football
league game are again fixed for this weekend but if not played due
to the weather they will be postponed until the New Year. The big
event this weekend however is the annual Juvenile Girls awards night
on this Sunday 6th in the Cuala Hall at 6.00pm. A number of teams
will be presented with league and championship medals and a number
of special awards will be given out by a number of special guest
presenters.
Tickets will also be on sale for the Cuala Ladies Lunch to be held
Friday 8th Jan @ 2:30pm in The Killiney Castle. Cost €40. Available
at all major Cuala events and Cuala Bar/Academy over the next couple
of weeks
Last Sunday morning was a day for staying in bed or sitting in front
of the fire but not so for the U15A Football team as they had to
play the Shield Final -v- Ballinteer St.Johns on Thomas Davis all
weather pitch. Playing conditions for both teams were terrible with
driving cold rain and very strong gusting winds but despite both
teams still played with determination and skill. Cuala came out
winners 2 9 to 1 5. Due to the weather the presentation was made
in the dressing room to Cuala captain Fergus Spillane. Well done
to the boys and their mentors and the
supporters who ventured out in the weather.
There will be a full meeting of the Juvenile Boys Committee next
Tuesday at 9.15pm. All age groups must send a representative for
an important meeting on finance and registrations for 2010.
Great to see our two top adult teams in Football & Hurling retaining
their Senior status and to see both U21 teams in the semi-finals
of their respective Championships. The future is indeed very bright
for the Club. Well done to all the management and players involved.
Well done to the U21 hurlers who had a strong win over St.Vincents
in the hurling championship last Saturday. On a bitterly cold day,
the fog made the game almost impossible but there was no denying
the quality in this Cuala side and they ran out winners. Roll-on
to the semi-finals and Ballyboden.
Good luck to the U21 Footballers who are in action on Saturday versus
Na Fianna in the Championship 2:30pm in O'Tooole Park. Best of luck
lads and all support welcome.
Don't forget the Cuala Chrismas trees for sale on the 12th.
26 Nov 2009
Tickets for the 1st ever Cuala 'Ladies Lunch' go on sale on December
1st. This fundraising lunch is being organised by the Juvenile Girls
and
will be held in the Killiney Castle on Friday 8th January @ 2:30pm.
Cost
E40. The perfect Christmas gift for the Cuala Lady (or Ladies) in
your life!
- The weather took it's toll on most juvenile girls fixtures last
weekend. Only the 96s were in action narrowly losing to Naomh Mearnog
on
Sunday morning in camogie and then beaten by Naomh Peregrines in
football
later the same afternoon. The twice postponed 96s camogie play-off
for
runners up spot in D3 is again scheduled for this Saturday with
their final
football league game fixed for Sunday.
- In one of the few games on last weekend, the U13 boys had a great
win
over arch-rivals Lucan in a must-win game. This puts them level
on points at
the top of Division 2 so need to play again to decide where the
medals go. A
great game, with our lads displaying cool heads and stout hearts
to come
out on top by 2 points.
- Cuala senior footballers retained their senior league status in
Blunden
drive on Tuesday night with a workmanlike defeat of O'Tooles. Playing
against the win Cuala got off to a very bright start scoring the
first 3
points from play. As the wind strengthened and O'Tooles settled
there was
some stout defending from Cuala keep the score tight and low , indeed
a
massive point from O'Tooles centre forward nudged O'Tooles in front
at half
time 4 points to 3. Cuala started the second half brightly, John
Sheanon
scoring a long range free and Luke Fitzgerald clipping over a nice
point. It
was a tight affair at this stage and Cuala went 7-4 ahead after
more good
work in the forwards. With 10 minutes to go O'Tooles got the first
and last
score of the half a close in free , but John Sheanon settled nerves
with an
excellent free from a tight angle to push Cuala 3 in front. There
was to be
no late drama and Cuala won out 8 points to 5 winners. Well done
to Mickey
Sheanon and his management team for retaining senior football in
the club.
- Well done to the U21 footballers who had a great win over Erin's
Isle
to progress to the next round.
- The U21 Hurlers are in action against St. Vincents on Saturday
next
2:45pm at St.Vincents ground in the next round of the championship.
All
support most welcome.
- Christmas Trees will once again be on sale at Cuala GAA Club,
Hyde
Park, Dalkey on Saturday 12th December from 9am for the day, or
while stocks
last. The 2000s Boys Group will be selling the trees, with all proceeds
going to the Cuala club. All of the trees will be "non shed"
and we are
promised that the trees will be bigger and better than ever before.
Please
support your Club and get down early on the 12th to get your tree.
- Last opportunity to buy tickets for the Cuala 99 "Christmas

Killiney Castle, on the Thursday next, 3rd of December 2009. Enjoy
the
music of "The Gardiner Gospel Street Choir" with mince
pies and mulled
wine. The show presented by Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh starts at 8pm.
This was a
hugely popular event last year and one designed to lift the spirits
as we
enter the Festive period. Tickets at €20 can be bought from

- The Club AGM is all set for Thur 3 Dec. Details of Nominations
and
Motions have now been published and can be inspected on our dedicated

Cuala
families are invited to take part in this annual Christmas Hike
in the
Wicklow Hills to raise money to sponsor the education of children
in
Tanzania who have been orphaned by AIDS. See
http://www.kiwakkuki.org.This year’s hike is on Sunday 13th
December
starting at 10am from Crone
Wood car park (near Powerscourt waterfall). This 3hr ‘Hike’
would be a
challenge to a ‘hardy’ 8 year old. For sponsorship cards
see attachment. If
your family and neighbours are ‘all sponsored out’ families
can make a
donation on the day. Anybody not in a position to make a financial
contribution is of course welcome to join us. For further information

- Cuala Minors Take A Hike. Last Sunday 32 players with mentors
and
parents from the minor panel headed off on a hike. All (well not
quite all)
came prepared with suitable hiking and rain gear and departed for
the hills
of Wicklow at 9am. The hike started at the Sallygap with a trip
around Lough
Dan followed by a challenging climb to the hilltop (some hill).
Everyone
managed to complete the trek with some finding the exertion a little
more
difficult than others. This trip would not have been possible without
the
expert leadership of Kevin and Ciara Spain. To them many thanks.
The
evidence can be viewed on the website.
- Dont forget the music session in the bar every Wednesday and most
Saturday nights.
19 Nov 2009
Over 50 girls took part in a very successful Juvenile Girls Sponsored
Walk last Saturday. Due to some competing events, including the
U13 final, not all girls were able to take part so another walk
will be held this weekend weather permitting. Anyone who hasn't
returned their sponsorship cards and money please do so next week.
- Only one Juvenile girls game was played last weekend due to the
weather. The 1996s played Clontarf in the U13 D2 Football Shield
Final. After a slow start the girls played a brilliant second half
but unfortunately it wasn't to be and for the third year in a row
the Cuala girls were beaten in the final by the same opposition.
Once again after the
game however, the girls vowed to be back in the final next year
and for as long as it takes to win the title! The 96s camogie play-off
for runners up spot in D3 was postponed but is fixed again for this
Saturday in the Phoenix Park against Naomh Maur.
- A vacancy still exists for Dublin Under 14 Girls Manager. Interested

soon we will be playing on Christmas day:
Pole position this week goes to the U11 A Footballers have a play
off for the Division One League title against St Judes at Clonkeen
College at 11am on Saturday morning. The lads earned home advantage
for this one off decider and would really appreciate if any parents
and kids at a loose end because of possible abandonments elsewhere
could help to make it count and show what a strong club we are in
support of all our teams.
Congratulations to Barbara, Donal and the 1998 girls team who had
a great victory over Clontarf last Saturday in the U11 D1 Football
Shield final. It was the Juvenile Girls section's second title in
the last 3 weeks! This weekend it's the turn of the 1996s when they
play Clontarf in the D2 Football Shield Final on Sunday. The 96s
are also scheduled to play their final camogie league game on Saturday
away to Castleknock, a win should see them take runners up spot
in D3. The Juvenile Girls Sponsored Walk is also on this Saturday
14th November, leaving Hyde Park at 2.00pm.
The youth club won't be on this Friday as we have dont have enough
volunteers. In order for it to continue we need to set up a panel
of volunteers where we could draw up a rota to help each Friday
it is on. Please see if you could possibly help out here.
Our condolences to the Doran Family on the passing of Gerry Doran.
Gerry was a great supporter of Cuala for many years and will be
sorely missed. Funeral mass Friday 10am in Dalkey followed by burial

girls teams. Only the U13s (1996s) were in action in challenge games

of teams from throughout Dublin took part in the Blitz. The Cuala
teams acquitted themselves very well in all their matches.
No games or training for the juvenile girls last weekend due to
the Bank Holiday. This weekend the U13s ('96s) are back in action
on Saturday against Raheny Gaels in an important camogie league
game and in football on Sunday against Naomh Peregrines. U9s ('00s)
have their final camogie league game on Sunday against Faughs. Training

the mid term break. Check the juvenile girls calendar on the website
for full details www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls.
The U11 Boys Lions and Leopards footballers face a trip to Thomas
Davis on Saturday morning. Victory will ensure at least a play off
for the Division 1A League title and if other results go the right
way they could be crowned as Champions on the day, adding to the
U11 A Southside Cup they won back in May.
There will be a full meeting of the Juvenile Boys Committee on Tuesday
evening nov 3rd at 9:30pm in the club. Each age group must send

Bank holiday weekend nearly upon us, dont forget to put
the clocks back
Congratulations to the Cuala 1997 girls who captured the first title
for the Cuala Juvenile Girls section with a hard fought two point
win against Ringsend side Clan Na Gael in Pairc Ui Tuaithail last
Sunday. The victory was all the sweeter considering Cuala almost
didn't enter a team at this grade at the start of the year due to
the small number of eligible players and it shows what rewards hard
work and determination can bring. In front of a big contingent of
Cuala supporters the girls came out on top by 2-11 to 4-3. Well
done to the management team of Linda Farren, Donal Dunne and Fiona
Ross. See the juvenile girls calendar on the website for full details
of this and all games www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls. No games this
Bank Holiday weekend.
The date of the Juvenile Boys AGM has been switched to Thursday,
November 12th at 2030 in the Cuala Bar. We would like as many parents
from each group to attend, as well as all the mentors and managers
that have put in so much effort throughout the year.
The Cuala U11 Hurlers had two good wins over Ballyboden St Enda’s
in Division 1 and St Peregrines in Division 3 last weekend. Training
will take place on Tuesday 28th and Thursday 30th next week ahead
of our final round of regular season football fixtures.
We would like to encourage as many boys as possible can to attend
next weeks ‘turn up and play’ match sessions at Thomastown.
Please also bring along a friend or neighbour who would enjoy a
fun and friendly introduction, or re-introduction to our games.
There will be hurling sessions on Monday and Friday, Football on
Wednesday.
G4M – Gaelic for Mothers in Cuala is taking a break next Wednesday
28th October.
We wish a speedy recovery to Colm O'Farrell who unfortunately broke
his jaw during a recent match.
Cake sale in aid of Harold Boys School will be on this Saturday
morning 24th Oct in Our Lady’s Hall. Parents of Academy might
call in for a cake!
Senior hurlers involved in vital game on Saturday vs Na Fianna,
Mobhi Rd, 4:30pm. All support welcome.
15 Oct 2009
We need everyone once again to support the Part 8 application for
lights and back-nets in Hyde Park so we can use these pitches throughout
the winter months. Its very simple. Write a short letter to the Council
saying you support the application because of the benefits it would
bring to Cuala and all of the age-groups who use the pitch. Address
is DLRCC County Council, Planning Office, Marine Rd, Dun Laoghaire.
I know you all think it would be a good idea so please show your
support and write that letter.
Academy AGM is on next Tuesday October 20th at 9pm in Cuala. Parents
of all Academy Children (born 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004) are invited
to attend.
I mentioned parking last week - back on the agenda this week. Some
inconsiderate parking last week left one person blocked in for over
an hour at the Academy on Saturday morning. Folks please park sensibly.
The fundraising committee for Loreto Dalkey Primary School are organising
a cake sale in Our Lady's Hall in Dalkey next Saturday morning (Oct
17th) from 9:30-12:30. Surely those Academy players deserve to be
treated with a cake after all that hard work?
Last weekend was a busy one for the Juvenile Girls Section with
most teams in action. The U12s (1997s) were very unfortunate to
be beaten in the camogie championship semi final in controversial
circumstances against Good Counsel but well done to the U13s (1996s)
on beating Kilmacud Crokes in camogie on Saturday and beating Scoil
Ui Chonaill in football on Sunday to qualify for their third Shield
final in a row. This weekend the big game is the U12 Football D3
Championship final at 11.15am on Sunday in O'Tooles where Cuala
take on Clann Na Gael. All support encouraged. The U9s (2000's)
also play Templeogue Synge Street on Saturday in Busy Park and the
U11s play Thomas Davis on Saturday in Meadowvale. See the juvenile
girls calendar on the website for full details of all games www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls.
U14 Girls qualified for the Championship final last Saturday by
beating local rivals Foxrock Cabinteely in a thrilling game in Meadowvale
winning 6-07 2-07. They now play Thomas Davis in the Final on a
date yet to be confirmed. Special thanks to Katie O'Dea who played
an U13 camogie match prior to this game and followed this by having
a great game in goals for the U14's.
Congratulations to the U11 Lions footballers who took poll position
in Division One of the football league with a convincing 4-22 to
1-10 victory over St Judes at Clonkeen. One round of matches and
a possible play off to go. Commiserations to the U11 Leopards who
went down by two points to St Judes in their Division 1B decider.
Now that Loreto is back in full swing, please remember to drop at
Harbour Road as opposed to swinging in to the school laneway and
causing chaos. It is all of a 20 yard walk and will be good for
your and your kids hearts if nothing else. The parking area in front
of the school is for the use of mentors carrying equipment only.
U12 boys First team Footballers earned a vital draw against Lucan
last week and were unlucky not to win. Second Team were well beaten
by St. Olafs. Third Team had no match. Important Hurling Matches
against Faughs and Clanna Gael this week. Our Annual Sponsored Walk
is taking place at Glendalough this Sunday, meeting at the Upper
Car Park at 11am. Please give this outing all your support.
U13 hurlers were outstanding against Faughs in Div 1 last week with
Cian MacFhearghasa putting in a man of the match performance.
U15A's Footballers beat St Judes in Thomastown last Sunday to reach
the Shield A Final to face either Castleknock or St.Johns.
Minor training for the 2010 season begins next Sunday 18th with
hurling training in Shankhill (time to be advised). On Tuesday at
7pm all minors are requested to be in the hall at 7pm for a meeting
and demonstration on the core /weight training programme to commence
on the following Tuesday. A meeting of all minor players will take
place in the committee afterwards. On the following Friday football
training will commence at 6pm in Loreto Dalkey for all minors.
Cuala junior footballers contest the Stacy cup final on Sunday next
v Templeogue SS in Dolphin Pk at 11am. All support welcome. A scurrilous
rumour going around that it might be Paddy Murdock’s testimonial.
Paddy say it aint so?
Cuala Gaelic4Mothers meet on Weds evenings from 9 to 10 in the Hall.
More details 087 9816758. Eugene
Council are holding the formal opening ceremony for the new Thomastown
dressing-rooms on Tuesday next at 12 o clock.
Cuala Hurling Strategy Review takes place on Monday 19th October
in the Hall
8 Oct 2009
Sincere thanks to all who made the Fun-Day such a success. Weather
was once again benign and we got a great crowd.
Firstly, on behalf of Cuala we would like to extend our sympathies
to Maire Ui Scolai and Eamon McGurk whose father passed away during
the week.
This weekend is a busy one for the U9 girls (2000s). They host Na
Fianna on Saturday in a mini football blitz and Lucan Sarsfields
on Sunday in a camogie league game. Commiserations to the U11 girls
(1998s) on their exit from the Camogie A Championship. They beat
Kilmacud Crokes last Sunday to set up a play-off with Naomh Brid
to qualify for the semi final but two games in three days proved
too much as they were beaten on Tuesday. Well done to the U12 (1997s)
camogie team who won their last match of the league last weekend
beating Naomh Barrog by 9-3 to 7-3. We also wish them good luck
in their Championship semi-final this Saturday. They are playing
away against Good Counsel and all support is welcome for this important
match. Finally, the U13s (1996s) had a good win in football against
Ballinteer as part of last Sundays Fun Day. This weekend they play
Kilmacud Crokes in camogie in Meadowvale on Saturday and Scoil Ui
Chonaill in the football Shield semi final on Sunday. See the juvenile
girls calendar on the website for full details of all games www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls.
The U11B hurlers scored two fine wins over Kilmacud in their all
Ireland blitz last weekend. This week the U11 Lions and Leopards
have a crunch league match against St Judes while the Cougars and
Jaguars face Crokes at Clonkeen. Many thanks to all those parents
and mentors who gave of their time to make last Sundays Family Fun
Day such a success.
Great results for the 1997s(U12) Hurling Teams last weekend. The
"A" Team had a very tough encounter with Naomh Mearnog,
winning by a goal and a point. The "B" Team had a comfortable
win over Na Fianna. Three very important football matches this coming
weekend, against Lucan, Naomh Olaf and Croi Na Riofa.
Badminton-The Badminton night has proved very successful, so much
so that we have now reached our maximum numbers of players as there
are only two Courts available. If anybody else is interested in
playing, they should send Derek Spain an e-mail. He will let them
know if any places become available in the future. osullivanspain@eircom.net
Please see attached a hurling
strategy document. The purpose of this document is to put forward
a strategy for the future of hurling in Cuala. All interested members
are asked to attend a meeting in Cuala, Hyde Rd, Monday 19th October
at 9.00pm.to discuss the issues raised in the document. Well done
to Karl Schutte and his team on producing.
Folks unfortunately we have had a complaint from the residents near
Thomastown Park of some inconsiderate parking that occurred on Saturday
September 27th during a match. Several people attending this match
parked at the end on Thomastown Road, directly opposite residents
gates which made entering or exiting their driveways extremely difficult.
Some people were completely blocked by a car parking on the road
directly opposite their gate which meant for several hours , they
were unable to get their car out of the driveway. This is unacceptable
and quite possibly illegal. We must show due consideration for residents
near Thomastown and advise our own teams and visiting teams to park
properly.
To ensure player safety Hurling Helmets must be worn by ALL HURLERS
from the 1st January 2010. It is essential that this rule is fully
observed and implemented for both Hurling Matches and Hurling Training
Sessions. This is both GAA and Cuala Policy and An Coiste expect
that all players and team managers/mentors will fully comply with
the rule.
Congratulations to David Treacy and Oisin Gough who were both nominations
on the GPA Hurling team of the year. The final selections will be
announced on Friday 6th November at a gala dinner. Details on the
RTE website www.rte.ie. Good luck lads.
Here's something worth doing. Help us win the GAA Club competition
with Change.ie by finding your carbon number on www.change.ie and

€10,000 to our club. More members increase Cuala’s chance
of winning, so click onto www.change.ie
and join the Cuala Group. Its easy - just click on the link
above, select Groups and at the bottom of the screen select Sector-sporting,

Another busy weekend ahead and of course it's Fun-Day weekend so
start the novenas for good weather:
Last weekend was a quiet one on the playing fields for the girls
juvenile teams due to the Ladies Football final in Croke Park. Off
the field it was very busy however with almost 150 girls and parents
cheering on the Dubs in a thrilling final in Croke Park. Special
mention for Cuala U13 Sorcha Clarke who scored a magnificent goal
for a Dublin U13 selection against a Cork selection at half time
during the senior game. The Cuala U13s also recorded a great win
in their final camogie game of this year's championship against
Ballyboden St Endas.
This weekend there is a full fixture list with the U11s in particular
playing 2 crucial games which could put them in the semi finals
of both of their camogie and football championships. Best of luck
girls.
Good luck to the U11 Hurlers who are playing in an all Ireland blitz
organised by our neighbours at Kilmacud Crokes this weekend. Last
year they played and beat Newtownshandrum.

Dublin following a brilliant win over Ballyboden St Enda’s
at Parnell Park last Sunday. There are plenty more juvenile teams
in contention for titles over the next few weeks. Watch out for
key fixtures in this email and please try your best to encourage
support of the club teams wherever possible.
Please note that you must return a copy of your letter back from
the Garda Vetting Bureau to Rob Hartnett (GVF), Cuala, Hyde Road,
Dalkey. The deadline for receipt of these forms is approaching and
it will be a requirement of involvement with any juvenile or minor
team to have your form back to the club. If you have given your
letter to a team mentor please make sure he or she has returned
it to the club.

be re-installed this week in steel boxes.
Our thanks are due to the Pitch Maintenance team - all pitch surfaces
seem to be in excellent condition.
Senior Football Team Manager, Mikey Sheanon, is going back to South
Africa. No, not to live but to put his building expertise to great
use, building houses with the Niall Mellon Foundation. To fund the
trip and raise badly needed funds for a great cause, Mikey is running
a Quiz Night on Friday Night at 9pm in Cuala. Cost of entry is €10
a head or €40 for a table. Go on, dig deep and support this
worthy cause. See you on Friday at 9pm.
Junior hurlers had a great win against table-toppers O'Tooles last
Saturday. Some dramatic late goals did the business. Two more league
games left so all players are requested to attend remaining training
sessions.
Adult Footballers play in Intermediate championship semi-final on
Saturday at 5pm, Parnell Park. All Support most welcome. Other football
fixtures are on www.hill16.ie Check before you go and try and get
out to support the teams.
In case you could possible have forgotten Sunday is Cuala Fun-Day;

There will be the usual vast array of entertainment - all we need
now is you!
24 Sep 2009
Well done to Kerry and hard luck to the Rebels. This weekend its
the turn of the Rebelettes and the Jackies who are in Croker for
the final of the Ladies SFC. Good luck to both.
Last weekend was a busy one with all the girls juvenile teams in
action. Special mention for the U12 footballers who beat Foxrock
Cabinteely in the championship semi final and well done to the U11
B camogie team on their first victory, a big win against Kilmacud
Crokes.
This weekend is much quieter with only the U9s and U13s camogie
championship on Sunday. No football due to the Ladies final in Croke
Park. All juvenile girls teams are bringing groups, current numbers
are 130 and increasing! Also best wishes to Cuala U13 Sorcha Clarke
who will be playing with a Dublin U13 selection against a Cork selection
at half time during the senior game. Maith an cailín.

played their hearts out and emerged victorious with a 7 point win.
The U14 hurlers have a top-of- the-table clash with K.Crokes in
Thomastown on Saturday at 2pm. This will followed by U14Bs who play
Naomh Mearnog at 3:30pm. All support welcome.
Big day for the U15s on Sunday with under 15A Championship Final

Senior footballers had a great win over St.Judes last Sunday in
the IFC quarter-final.
Senior hurlers play Championship on Friday evening in Parnell Park
against the Divisional side. Thrown in at 6:45pm.
David Treacy has received one of the highest honours in the game
by being one of 4 Dublin players to be nominated for a 2009 All-Star
in the Full Forward line. This is a great honour for David, Cuala
and for Dublin Hurling, and is due recognition for his contribution
to Dublin's success in the All-Ireland series this year. CualaComms
would like to know if there have been other Cuala players nominated
in the past?
Family Fun Day Sunday 4th October - so stall owners please make
your usual preparations. If anyone would like to volunteer to help
out on the day please contact John Treacy or just reply to me here
in CualaComms. No shortages of jobs. Qualifying requirements are

The Cuala Corporate Lunch was a tremendous success again this year
with Michael Lyster and Mickie Harte outstanding as guests. Sincere
thanks to all who helped to make it happen and to the sponsors.
In troubled times, it was great to see such a big attendance.
All for this week.
17 Sep 2009
Well its show-down time for the Rebels and the Kingdom in what should
be another classic. If anyone needs an interpreter for the post-match
interviews full of "yerras , "d'yaknows" , and "doutchaboy"
I can be contated in the Lower Hogan:
Congratulations to the 16 players who represented Cuala's U10's
in a Leinster Hurling Blitz hosted by Carlow Town Hurling Club last
Saturday.Twenty clubs from around Leinster participated in the event,
on a day where the temperature reached record levels for this time
of the year. The hurling was fast, furious and very competitive.
The Cuala lads showed great determination and skill and succeeded
in winning all three of their games against teams from Carlow, Wexford
and Dublin. Well done to all those who travelled, played and supported.
Mixed fortunes for the girls juvenile teams last weekend. Despite
a great performance the U11 Bs were beated by Ballyboden in camogie,
the U12s were beaten by Bray Emmets in football, the U13s were beated
by St Slyvesters in football but the U11s had a great win away against
Na Fianna in football.
This weekend is a particularly busy one for most of the juvenile
girls teams with a number of important championship games. U10s
play Kilmacud Crokes in football on Saturday, U11s play Foxrock
Cabinteely in football on Saturday and Kilmacud Crokes in camogie
on Sunday, the U12s play Foxrock Cabinteely in football on Sunday
and finally spare a though for our U13s who have to play Lucan Sarsields
away in camogie on Sunday morning at 10.30am and Foxrock
Well done to the U15A Hurlers who beat Kilmacud Crokes by a single
point in a tense semi final to earn a place in the A Championship
Final against Ballyboden SE. Details of final to follow.
The U15 Hurlers were one of the ten juvenile boys teams in competitive
action last weekend, from U11 to U16, and every one of our teams
won ! The U14 Hurlers also had a great win by defeating the Dublin
Féile Champions Ballyboden St Enda’s in their Division
1clash, while the U13 hurlers, U12s and U11s footballers all had
good wins. The U12s hurlers take on Castleknock at Porterstown and
St Marks at Thomastown. this week and training continues on Mondays
and Wednesdays.
U14 girls travelled to Balbriggan last Friday evening with a squad
of 13 to play the first round of the Championship. A draw at full
time meant that extra time had to be played. Again as the full time
whistle blew both sides were still level. Time ran out as night
fell which meant there will be a replay this Friday evening in Meadowvale
at 6.30pm.All support welcome. Well done to the 13 girls who played
their hearts out against a squad of 22.
There has been plenty of feedback and negotiation on the winter
training schedule for the juvenile sections. The final allocation
of facilities, planned to cover the next four years, will be made
shortly to age groups representatives.
There will be a draw for All-Ireland tickets on Thursday night 9:30pm
in the bar for Cuala Members.
Reminding members to try sell some lines in the Football Forecast
competion and that forms MUST be returned either through your age
group mentor or left behind the Cuala Bar and clearly marked 'For
Attention Of Peadar McAdam (0872345393) by 8pm this Saturday evening
for inclusion in the competition.
The opening Badminton night got off to a great start on Tuesday
the 15th September and was enjoyed by all who attended. New members

Hard luck to senior hurlers in the championship against Crokes last
Sunday. 3 Junior footballing teams in action next Sunday morning
against St.Judes , Templeogue and Croi Ro Naofa respectively. The
3rd team are in Hyde Park at 10:30am but confirm details by checking
www.Hill16.ie.
The website is still sick but its not fatal. Should be back on its
feet this week
Lastly, in recent weeks its has been mentioned on several occasions
that there has been less than optimal behaviour on the sidelines
of pitches, at many levels of the club. I would like to remind everyone
that players, coaches and referees are doing their best. No-one
sets out to deliberately make mistakes (this is not Formula-1!).
Players should be encouraged, coaches should be assisted and referees
should be respected even when we disagree strongly with their decisions.
Not easy I agree but lets try to set examples for those around us.
10 Sep 2009
Well done to the Cats on the 4in-a-row and to Tipp too on a fantastic
All Ireland Final!
Note Cuala Family Fun Day is moved to 4th October.
The Juvenile committee are putting the final pieces of the complex
jigsaw that is the winter training schedule into place and it is
expected that teams and mentors will be advised of the facilities
and times available to them in the next few days.
The All Ireland Football Final Forecast is back again. There is
a short run in which to whip up anticipation and send our boys and
girls scurrying in search of €2 lines looking to correctly
predict Cork’s demolition of the Kingdom in return for a princely
prize of €500. Forms should be available from team mentors
and at the club from Friday evening and must be returned, for obvious
reasons, by Saturday week, September 19th.
Congratulations to the U11 Blue Hurlers who had a great win over
Bray Emmets last Saturday and are now sitting third in division
3A.
Congratulations to Deridre Faul, one of the U11 Mums who returned
from the World Transplant Games in Sydney recently with a haul of
four gold medals in Badminton singles and doubles, squash and golf.
A brilliant achievement.
All Juvenile players are asked to bring their own labelled water
bottles to training and matches. In light of this being a rotten
time of year for colds and bugs, and with the added threat of swine
flu epidemics hanging over us, teams are suspending the normal practice
of sharing water bottles.
The 6 Cuala players on the under 15 south hurling squad that won
the recent Leinster blitz beating Kilkenny North in the final deserve
honourable mention.Ben rrity,Colm Cronin,Cian O'Callaghan,Ross Tierney,Cillian
O'Farrell and Jack O'Faolain are the men in question. Well done
lads.
Many thanks to all who replied to e-mail on badminton.Open Badminton

The U12 Hurlers had a fantastic day at Thomastown last Saturday.Clubs
from Naas, Co. Kildare, Castletown, Co. Westmeath and Faughs, Dublin
enjoyed a very succesful Tournament which served up a great fare
of hurling. The U/12's parents put on a spread that would have made
Reggie Corrigan weep ! Each of the visiting Clubs conveyed their
heartfelt thanks to all those involved in the organisation of this
event. All the kids received medals, hot dogs, sandwiches, crisps,
scones, buns, chocolates biscuits fanta etc. Get the message ? The
facilities at Thomastown ensured that this was an event to remember.
Well done to all those people that brought that project to fruition.
A first class facility ! We also had a second team participate in
a similar tournament at St. Marks G.A.A Club which was enjoyed by
all concerned.
Great win for U15 hurlers in Championship on Tuesday night against
Whitehall Colmcilles in Ellenfield. The lads meet Crokes in the
next round - one to look forward to.
Minor hurlers play Parnells in Championship in Shankill on Friday
at 7pm, all support welcome
Well done to the Junior hurling team who had a hard fought win over

One more newsletter and then will be taking a short break until
early August. All this weeks news below:
Although the girls competitions are almost at a close for the summer
break, the U9s (2000s) had a very busy past weekend. They joined
the U8s (2001s) in a very successful mini football blitz against
Foxrock Cabinteely where all 4 Cuala teams more than held their
own against their local rivals. The U9s followed this up with a
bus trip to Croke Park for the stadium and museum tour and a great
time was had by all. The U9s ended a great weekend with a hard earned
win against Lucan Sarsfields in their camogie league games on Sunday.
Congratulations to the U11s (1998s) who ended their first season
in Division 1 with a brilliant win against Oliver Plunketts in camogie.
They saved their best display of the season for last. Well done
to Donal and Barbara for all the hard work from the start of the
year to get the team to this level of performance.
This weekend the U9s play their last camogie league game before
the Summer break against Faughs on Sunday at 10am in Meadowvale.
The U12s/13s (1997s/96s) have entered a summer 'mini-blitz' league
in football and host Kilmacud Crokes, Naomh Peregrines and Castleknock
in Thomastown this Sunday at 6pm.
Cuala are running Advanced summer camps specifically for girls for
the first time this year. Football is for 1995,1996 and 1997 girls
and is running from 13th July to 17th July. Camogie is for 1996,
1997 and 1998 girls and is running from 20th July to 24th July.
All girls are encouraged to attend.
The main Summer camps for kids aged 6-12 are starting next week.If
you dont have details they are on the web.http://www.cualagaa.ie/forms/2009_summercamp.pdf
Best wishes to the U14 footballers in their National Feile division
games in Suncroft Co.Kildare. The team are leaving on Friday at
11am with their first game at 3pm Friday vs Suncroft. The remaining
games are at 10:15 V Lawrences and 12:30 on Saturday Vs New York.
Again Suncroft is about 6 miles from Kildare town on the southside
of the Curragh. All supporters most welcome. Who knows NewYork might
want a return fixture?!!
U14B footballers are playing in a blitz in Westmeath on Saturday.
Its a bit of fun and should be a great day out. No gloating over
last Sunday's SFC result allowed!
Great win for our Minor hurlers this week against Crumlin in Div
1 League. Cuala Minor B footballers were unlucky to be beaten by
St. Peregrines in a scoreline of 4-6 to 3-15. Five points ahead
with ten minutes remaining and it looked as if Cuala were going
to win out over the league leaders. It was not to be. Despite a
magnificent performance Cuala lost by a six point margin that did
not fairly reflect the balance of play over the whole match.
The Seniors hurlers continued their unbeaten run last week with
a draw against Ballyboden on Wednesday followed by an excellent
victory over Craobh Chiarain in Shankill on Saturday evening. Junior
hurlers put up a valiant effort against St.Bridgets last Saturday
but couldn't manage to overcome goal-scoring prowess of Bridgets.
Best wishes to Oisin Gough and David Treacy who are representing
the club for Dublin in the Leinster Senior Final against Kilkenny
next Sunday in Croke Park.
Linda Farren, the secretary of the Juvenile Girls committee, is
currently preparing a plan for the purchase and deployment of Automatic
External Defibrillators (AEDs) at all of the playing facilities
used by Cuala. Early intervention with an AED can significantly
improve the life expectancy of someone who is suffering a heart
attack. Linda is a qualified instructor in the use of AEDs and is
looking for other qualified instructors of the Irish Heart Foundation's
Heart Saver AED course who can assist in training club members in
the use of AEDs. later this year. If you can help, please contact
Linda on 0872483646.
25 June 2009
The weather is glorious and the summer break is nearly here:
Hard luck to the U13 (1996s) camogie team who after a great performance
were very unfortunate to be beaten by Naomh Peregrines in their
top of the table clash last Saturday. They bounced back on Sunday
however to record a brilliant one point win against Ballyboden St
Endas in football. The U11s (1998s) also had a very good one point
win away to St Slyvesters in football on Saturday.
The girls competitive leagues are now nearing the summer break but
the U9s (2000s) are in still in action this weekend with a mini
football blitz with the U8s (2001s) against Foxrock Cabinteely in
Kilbogget Park on Saturday followed by a coach trip to Croke Park
for the stadium and museum tour and a camogie league game against
Lucan Sarsfields in Lucan on Sunday. The U9s and U10s (1999) are
also having their own Mini All Ireland in Hyde Park this Thursday
25th at 6.00pm. The U11s play their final camogie league game before
the summer away to St. Oliver Plunketts on Saturday.
Best of luck next weekend to the U14 Footballers who will represent
the club and the county with pride in the 2009 National Féile
in Kildare. There is a huge amount of effort and preparation gone
into the team and the event and if you are around and fancy a trip
to cheer on the lads against hosts Suncroft, St Laurences and the
exotic champions of the USA, New York, the three group games take
place at 3pm on Friday, 10.15 and 12.30 on Saturday at Suncroft
which is on the southern edge of the Curragh about six miles from
Kildare Town. Suncroft will be our hosts for the weekend and all
Cuala supporters are welcome to the games and the entertainment
events on Saturday .
The bus trip organised by the ‘98s to Kilkenny last weekend
was a great success. A party of 50 set out for a day in the sun,
cheering on Oisin Gough and David Treacy and got out onto the pitch
for a good puc-around after the game. Things got even better on
their return when they were told they had won a €500 prize
put up by the Friends of Dublin Hurling to encourage exactly the
kind of support that our U11 group and friends were able to provide.
Well done Finbarr Murphy for pulling it all together.
The juvenile boys and mentors finish up the first half of the season
with this weekend’s fixtures. Wishing everybody a happy, sunny
summer and keep those hurleys and footballs close by no matter where
you roam.
Cuala '00 mini All-Ireland's take place in Thomastown on Saturday
morning from 10am. Thanks to all the other club teams who facilitate
these finals and the matches during the week.
As mentioned above, the Friends of Dublin Hurling (FODH) awarded
€500 to Cuala as part of the promotion to get clubs to arrange
buses to travel to Kilkenny last Sunday. The 'red-and-whites' were
in Nowlan Park in huge numbers to support our two Cuala lads who
were outstanding in the Leinster Semi-final against Wexford. It
was great to hear the "Cuala shout" when the lads names
were read out over the PA system. Well done to Finbarr Murphy and
the organising committee on a very successful day on and off the
pitch!
Trivia Question - the last time the Dubs made the Leinster senior
hurling final (1991) - who was the captain? None other than John
Twomey - Erin's Isle and Dublin supremo and now mentor to the Cuala
U13s.
An LG touch screen mobile phone was lost by one of the members either
in Meadow Vale or at the Mini All Ireland last week-end. Could you
please contact Susan in the office at 2350717 if you have managed
to find this phone. Thanks
See attachment for information on how to order tickets for the Leinser
SHC Final, Dublin vs Kilkenny.
Good luck to Senior and junior hurlers on their respective matches
next Saturday.
I'm sure you will all join me in wishing Club Secretary Ken O'Sullivan
a speedy recovery from recent illness.
18 Jun 2009
Nearly at the summer break for the kids so its time for All-Irelands
(mini) and camps:
This year’s Academy Mini Ireland finals are being played this
Saturday morning in Hyde Park. 290 or so children from the Academy
are taking part in the finals. The finals are being preceded by
a parade through Dalkey which starts at 9:30.
Well done to the U9 (2000) girls who beat our local rivals Kilmacud
Crokes last Sunday in their camogie league game. 28 Cuala girls
turned up and 3 games were played, Cuala winning 2 and the overall
match on a cumulative score of 12 goals to 9. The U11's (1998s)
also recorded another win in Division 1 football with a great 1
point win against St Slyvesters in Malahide. This weekend, the U13s
(1996s) play another critical camogie league game in Meadowvale
at 12.00 against league leaders Nh. Peregrines. A win will put Cuala
on top going in to the summer break.
A Cuala bus is being arranged to go down to Nowlan Park on Sunday
to support our "Boys-in-Blue". The Dublin senior hurlers
play in the semi-final of the Leinster Championship against Wexford

his musings on the mini All Ireland next Sunday morning, after the
9am news
Last weekend was another busy one for the Cuala juvenile girls teams.
The U10s, U11s, U12s & U13s were all in football and camogie
action but the team of the weekend had to be the U13's who recorded
a hard won victory in their top of the table clash in camogie against
Naomh Maur in Meadowvale. This weekend the U11 footballers are very
busy with a blitz in Na Fianna on Saturday and away to Sylvesters
on Sunday. U13s play Castleknock on Saturday in camogie.
Good luck to the U11 A Hurlers who take on Cluain Tarbh in the Dublin
A Final at Round Towers Clondalkin on Saturday at 12 noon. The U11’s
are bidding to add to the Southside A Football Cup which they won

against Kilmacud at the same venue at 1pm.
Great win for the U14 Div.1 Hurlers who won well against St. Vincents
to put them top of the League before the summer break.

Cuala are hosting an under 9 blitz in Thomastown on Saturday morning
from 10am. Featuring teams from Cuala, Cabinteely/Foxrock, St. Patrick's

this weekend with the U10s playing Ballyboden away in football on
Saturday and Na Fianna in camogie on Sunday in Meadowvale, the U11s
playing Vincents in camogie on Saturday in Meadowvale and the U13s
playing St Maurs in a top of the table clash in camogie in Meadowvale

In addition to the Cuala U11s winning the A -cup last week, the
Leopards (or Cuala 1 B team) also beat St. Judes by 1-6 to 1-4 in
the other game.
Congratulations too to the U11 Hurlers of Cuala 1 who continued
the great run of success for this age group by defeating Na Fianna
last weekend in the semi final of the U11 A Hurling Cup. It was
a great performance from the lads who now face Clontarf on Saturday
June 13th in the last leg of their bid to bring home the hurling
and Football A Cups in their first year of competitive action.

28 May 2009
It is with deep regret and great sadness that I have to advise you
of the passing of Fergus Ó Tighearnaigh
earlier today after a short illness. Fergus was a stalwart member
of Cuala for many years and was involved with numerous teams throughout
his time with the Club. Up until the end of last year, Fergus was
a member of the Senior Hurling back-room team and was a permanent
fixture on the side-line. He will be fondly remembered for his friendliness,
his great sense of humour and his positive outlook on life. He will
be sadly missed by everyone associated with Cuala. Our thoughts
are with his family and extended family. Ar dheis Dé go raimh
a ainm dílis.
Fergus would certainly have been proud of some the great events
from last weekend:
Last weekend proved very successful for the Cuala juvenile
girls teams. Our U9s beat St. Marks in their camogie league
game in Tallaght, our U11s recorded their first win in Division
1 football against Clontarf having come so close in their first
3 league games. Our U12s had a terrific win in camogie against Naomh
Barrog and our U13 footballers turned around an 8 point half time
deficit to beat league leaders St. Brigids by one point in a fantastic
and exciting game in Blanchardstown. Well done to all! Full match
reports on the www.calendar.wiz.com/cualagirls.
There are no competitive games this Bank Holiday weekend however
our U13s have a challenge game against Naomh Olafs in camogie on
Saturday and St Johns Ballinteer in football on Sunday.
The U11 Footballers - codenamed Cuala Lions - certainly lived up
to their name last Saturday in the Southside A Cup Final. With a
final result of Cuala 7-08 St Judes A 5-02 the result was beyond
doubt. A great result for a great team.
Good luck to the U11 Hurlers who face Na Fianna in the Semi Final
of the ‘A’ Cup in Glasnevin on Saturday morning.
Well done to the Cuala U14Bs who won their Hurling Feile division
last weekend. After some tough early round games, they beat St.Vincents
in the semis and recorded a great win over Na Fianna in the final.
This is a fantastic result for a team that has stuck together through
thick and thin. Special mention should be given to Brendan Stanley,
Patsy Greene and Aonghus Moloney for guiding the U14's to a great
victory.
Hard luck to the U14As who were in a very tough Division 1 competition.
They did however record a good victory over Na Fianna but went down
narrowly to the other teams in the group.
Well done to the U16 footballer who their Shield against Skerries
Harps
Well done also to Paul Shutte, David Treacy and Oisín Gough
who played in the win against Kildare in the U21 hurling championship.
May edition of the coaching newsletter is attached

Its another Feile weekend so fingers crossed and good luck to our
teams:
Thanks to all who helped organise and those who participated in
the very successful juvenile girls celebrations to mark Lá
na gClub last Sunday. Almost 70 girls took part in the sports day
in Hyde Park which was preceded by a colourful parade of players
through Dalkey led by a piper.
In camogie last Saturday the U11s were narrowly beaten by Naomh
Brid, the U12s were beaten by Whitehall Cholmcill but the U13s had
a great win against Raheny Gaels. This weekend is quite on the girls
juvenile fixtures front with only the U12 camogie team playing St
Judes in Meadowvale on Saturday and the U13 footballers playing
Scoil Ui Chonaill in Meadowvale on Sunday.
All parents - the Cuala School of Excellence Summer Camps will run
from the 6th to the 31st of July (U6-U12) and from U13 -24th July
(U13-U15). Advanced camps will have Cuala and Dublin players coaching,
in the same format as the Easter Camps. These are excellent ways
for kids to improve skills, enjoy themselves and parents to regain
sanity on long (hot?) summers. Prices and application forms to follow
soon.
Good luck to the boys U11 and U12 footballers who commence their
football league campaigns this weekend.
Good luck to our U14 Hurlers who will be participating in Féile
na Gael this weekend. The A team are playing in Division 1 with
games taking place at Silverpark, throw-ins at 10am V NaFianna,
11am V K.Crokes, 12 noon V St.Vincents and 2:30pm V Ballyboden.
Quite a morning! The B Team are in action in Division 6 at Clonshaugh
with games throughout Saturday starting at 10:45 against Craobh
Chíarain. Should our masters of the sliotar make it through,
their respective finals will take place on Sunday at Naomh Méarnóg
in Portmarnock at 11am (B’s) and 4pm (A’s). Good luck
to you all.
Last chance to buy your ticket for the Cuala Juvenile Night at the
Dogs and the €2,000 prize draw. You get both for the one price
of €20. The Cuala gang will be descending on Shelbourne Park
next Thursday, May 21st. See your Juvenile team mentors for details
or call Rob Hartnett on 086 3851955. Thanks for the support so far.
Forms for the required garda vetting process which must be undertaken
by all those who are responsible for coaching or mentoring teams
from Academy through to Minor have been distributed through respective
sections. All forms must be returned to the club by WEDNESDAY MAY
27TH for inclusion in the county board assisted process. Please
mark envelopes ‘Vetting’ and write your name on the
back. Remember, anybody who has not applied for vetting and is not
notified to the County Board by the Garda Vetting Unit as ‘approved’
will have to step down from any involvement with teams at under
age level.
Gerard Lee Motors Ltd (formally Jetstar) on Kill Ave are the main
sponsors for the Mini All Ireland in June 2009. As part of their
continuing support to Cuala they are offering an exciting deal to
members of Cuala whereby for any work they carry out, they will
give a 5% discount off the bill to Cuala members, and, will give
another 5% to Cuala on top of excellent value and service. Get the
squeaky brakes fixed and help Cuala too - I like it!
Cuala Minor Bs got their first home win of the season at Hyde Road
against a tough St Sylvesters team. The result was built on a strong
defence and some great attacking runs with the usual tactical genius
input from the sideline. Final result Cuala B 4:10; St Sylvesters
1:09. For a full match report, see http://www.cualagaa.ie/minors/minor_intro.html"
Hope you have all had a chance to see the launch of the "Cartlann
Digiteach Cuala" on the website. This is a new initiative that
will culminate in the creation of the Cuala Digital Archive. Great
credit due to Michael Goodwin and friends for getting this going.

7 May 2009
It was an eventful weekend for sure and all of our U14 teams did
us proud:
Top billing goes to our Féile teams. The Division 2 title
was one by our own U14A boys team in some style. Playing over in
St.Bridgets, they took their group by storm and won all 3 qualifying
matches on the Saturday. They then faced a strong Castleknock side
in the semis on Sunday. Meanwhile over in St.Olafs our B-team also
performed maginificently, and were somewhat unlucky not to make
the semis of Division 4 after 1 draw and 2 narrow losses, having
been beaten by the eventual winners Skerries Harps. They enjoyed
the experience and then turned their attention to supporting the
A-team on Sunday. In breezy conditions on Sunday, Castleknock were
dispatched after a spirited display. And so on to Parnell park at
5pm where St.Judes awaited. With style and panache Cuala really
showed what they could do and except for a goal against the run
of play, Jude's were never in this game with Cuala dominating throughout.
Some really good football from both teams with excellent scores
Cuala backs absolutely dominant. The Boys would like to thank all
Cuala supporters who supported the team in the final last Sunday
it made a real difference and the volume from the crowd on the final
whistle was excellent. Also a big thanks to Zita McDermott and Jenny
Drummond for all the organisation and support throughout the whole
Feile Campaign . Special mention to the mentors of both teams Willie
Braine, Gerry Killian, Gar Brennan, Tony Gibney (now minus moustache),
Patsy Greene, Brendan Stanley and Aonghus Moloney for doing such
great work with these lads for many years. Check out all the pictures
on the website http://www.cualagaa.ie/
Cuala Juvenile Girls hosted their group of the Féile in Hyde
Park last Saturday. Although the results on the field did not go
the girl's way on the day, they performed very well. Cathy Brock
played all three games despite being injured she still managed to
score 2 goals. Sheila Byrne playing in nets for the first time for
the team made many outstanding saves. Ciara McKeown U12 was outstanding.
Many thanks to those from all sections of the club, too many to
mention individually, who were involved in the organisation of the
1st Féile held by the Club, a very well organised event and
a memorable day for all the teams that took part. I've heard directly
from at least two other clubs on what a fantastic and well-run event
it was - so well done all.
Don't forget the hurling Féile coming up the weekend end
after next 16/17 May, A-team in Div 1 in Silver Park and B team
location is yet to be decided.
Congratulations to the U11 Cuala 1 Hurlers who followed the footballers
by making it through to the semi finals of the Southside Cup with
a big win over Naomh Barróg. The U11 Cuala 2 Hurlers finished
off their cup campaign with a win over Bray Emmets.
It was a quiet weekend last week for the juvenile girls section,
although some were in action with the U14 girls football Feile team
and the U8s and U9s took part in a mini camogie blitz in the Phoenix
Park with over 300 girls from other clubs . Well done to all concerned.
This Saturday the U11s play Naomh Brid away in camogie, the U12s
play Whitehall Cholmcilles away in camogie and the U13s play Raheny
Gaels in Meadowvale.
Next Sunday May 10th marks Lá na gClub, the 125th anniversary
of the GAA. The juvenile girls section are marking the occasion
by holding a mini sports day (Long Puc, Cic Fada, camogie and football
free taking, races, etc) in Hyde Park. All girls are welcome to
participate. The girls are meeting at Dalkey DART station at 2pm
with a short 'parade' to Hyde Park to commence activities. There
will be set-dancing in the Hall on Sunday night too to finish off
the celebrations. Also look out for a new and interesting programme
about the club which will be launced on the Cuala website on Sunday!!.
Tickets for the Juvenile Night at the Dogs on Thursday May 21st
are on sale now through Juvenile Team Mentors or through Rob Hartnett
on 086 3851955. €20 gets you admission to the track and entry
to a limited draw to win €2,000 on the night. It is worth buying
then whether you can make it on the night or not. The money raised
will directly benefit the team through which each ticket is sold
and last year’s event was great fun with Nuala McAdam landing
the big money prize.
Attached please fine and E-Ticket for Celebrity Bainisteoir Final
next Friday 8th May at 7pm in Parnell Park.Admission is free but
print as many e-tickets as you need and present them at the gate.
Best of luck to the Senior hurlers who play Ballyboden in the league
on Saturday evening in Shankill.
30 April 2009
Cuala will have the cream of its U14 talent playing in the Feile
Division 2 tournament at Russell Park (St.Bridgets)
while in the Division 4 tournament at Pairc Uí Bhríain(Naomh
Olaf) and the Girls Division 2 tournament will be hosted
in our own Hyde Park(note change from Thomastown).
The Féile is an important milestone for young players, their
parents, mentors and managers. In 2008, the Cuala B team succeeded
in landing their division title, bringing great credit on themselves
and the club as well as memories that will last a lifetime. One
of the mentors of that team, Kevin Kennedy, fulfils the same role
with the girls U14 team this year and so is bidding for a unique
double. On behalf of everyone involved in Cuala, we would like to
wish this years panels the very best of luck. May you play to the
best of your ability, represent your club with pride and passion
and most of all enjoy yourselves! Should the lads make it through
their groups and semi finals, the two panels could have back to
back finals at 4pm and 5pm respectively on Sunday at Parnell Park.
The girls' finals will be held in Ballyboden on Sunday. All support
is welcome and would be greatly appreciated.
The U11As and U12As are building
platforms for future Féiles and recorded historic victories
this week - both beating Kilmacud Crokes to reach their respective
Cup football finals. Well done lads and best of luck in the finals.
U13 Hurlers had a great win over Faughs in a keenly contested Div1
league match last Saturday. Cuala roared into an early lead with
great scores from Dáithí O Murchu, Eoin O'Naoire,
Jake Malone and Con O'Callaghan. Faughs were stunned by half-time
and mounted a strong come back but Cuala boys never faltered putting
in some great defensive work and in the end defeating the league
runners-up of last year.
There will be a full meeting of the Juvenile Boys Committee
on Tuesday, May 5th at 9pm in the Club.
The Ladies Football Section this year covers the
Under 14, Under 16 & Adult teams. The U14 team has got off to
a great start in Division 2 with 2 out of 2 convincing league wins
over St Annes & Ballinteer. We are all now looking forward to
see the girls play in this weekend's Feile in Hyde Park. The U16
team is a large 28 girl panel which is comprised of last year's
U14 and U16 teams coached by Joe Cole & Stephen McGovern. They
play in Division 2 and have won 1 out of 3 of our league matches
so far. Better luck in the future matches, girls! The Adult team
have played and lost their first Division 3 Cup match but have fared
better in the league, winning one & drawing one of their 2 matches
so far.
On Saturday the 6th of June we are running a coaching session for
all people who want to work on the Cuala Summer
Camps and School of Excellence
this summer. It will also be open to any manager who wishes to attend. Also
see atached Coaching newsletter for this month.
The Club have received Two Tickets for the Leinster V Munster

Did I mention 'quiet' last week? Well, I must have woken up my regular
hacks - cos back with a vengence this week.
Well done to the U9 (2000s) girls on playing their first ever camogie
league game last Sunday against Castleknock. Two games were played
with Cuala winning one by 2-1 and narrowly losing the other by 3-2.
In football, the U11s (1998s) were very unlucky to lose out by a
single point against Ballyboden St Endas in their Division 1 clash
but the U12s (1997s) had a great win against Ballyboden coming back
from 8 points down to win by 5-9 to 5-7 in a high scoring thriller.
This weekend, the U11 girls play Castleknock in football in Meadowvale
on Saturday while the U13s (1996s) play Naomh Peregrines in Camogie
also in Meadowvale. The 13s are then away to Fingallians in football
on Sunday.
Best wishes to Cuala U12 Ciara McKeown who plays with the Dublin
U13 squad in an intercounty camogie blitz on Saturday.Maith an cailín.
There will be a parents meeting for the U9 (2000’s) Girls
group in the club at 8.30 next Tuesday 28th.
The Dublin Girls Féile will take place on the weekend of
the 2nd and 3rd May.
Calling all Golfers! Dublin Ladies are organizing a Social Outing/Fundraising
Event. Every Club in Dublin is asked to enter a team – does
Cuala have 4 golfers? Drop Eugene Egan an eMail or txt on 087 9816758
Good luck to the Boys U11 (1), U12A and U12B football teams who
will be contesting semi finals of the A and B Cup competitions against
Kilmacud, St Annes and either St Judes or Kilmacud again next Wednesday
evening. The U12’s are both away but the U11’s will
likely be at home to Kilmacud at Thomastown, with a throw in of
6.45pm if you fancied walking the dog at that time and lending support
to our stars of the future.
Tickets for the Juvenile Night at the Dogs will be on sale next
week. €20 gets you admission to Shelbourne Park on May 21st,
a free race programme and entry to the ‘Buster’ where
one out of the total 720 tickets sold will win €2,000 free
of tax, levy, dirt or guilt. There is also an opportunity for companies
to lend their support for a modest outlay. The bulk of money raised
will go directly to the team which draws it in. Watch the website
or call Rob Hartnett on 086 3851955 for more details but mark the
date in your diary anyway.
Pitch allocations for juvenile boys teams training at Thomastown,
Hyde Road and Clonkeen have now been finalised. All mentors should
check with their age group reps to the Juvenile committee to confirm
details. All parents and players should check with their mentors.
Cuala U14 Hurlers went to West Belfast last Sunday to play in the
Seamus Wright Memorial Tournament which was hosted by Antrim Club
O'Donovan Rossa. The 14As opened the day with a 9 point win over
the Second Team of the Wicklow County Development Squad. In the
following match the Cuala boys lost two points against hosts O'Donovan
Rossa in a keenly contested match with both sides displaying fine
skills and determination. In the last match of the day the 14As
lost by a single point against the First Team of the Wicklow County
Development Squad. The 14B team displayed great heart and spirit
in their match against Wicklow but the boys from the Garden County
came through in the end. Many thanks to our hosts O'Donovan Rossa
for their hospitality. The Seamus Wright Memorial Tournament is
a great credit to all involved and the displays of hurling by all
teams are a great credit to all the participating players, mentors
and clubs. Cuala hope to participate in this tournament in future
years.
U15Bs travelled to Monaghan for a Challenge match V Cremartin on
Sunday Morning, along with a panel of 20 players we had 19 parents
and family in support and it proved a great day out for all, with
fantastic conditions for a match. The Monaghan under age league
is 11 a side but Cremartin managed to get out 20 players to "give
the Dubs a good kicking" with a mixture of U12s to U16s. It
proved to be a very worthwhile endeavour as the match was played
at a faster tempo than Cuala Bs would be used to. We managed to
hold our own during the first half and went in 1 goal behind, however
having had their <editor's bleep> chewed at half time, Cuala
came out of the blocks with renewed enthusiasm and went 4 points
ahead after about 20 mins. Cremartin seemed to have another gear
and upped the tempo which Cuala could not respont to and ended up
after full time Cremartin 3.11 to Cuala 2 .09. Cremartin were very
impressive especially the tenacity and bravery of their younger
players, all in all a good day out and an eye opener for Cuala.
Couple of intersting attachments about the GAA Musuem and Legends
tour.
As promised Minor and Adult fixtures for coming weeks below. Now
no excuse for you not to come out an support our teams.
16 April 2009
There were no fixtures last weekend so short one for you this week
-
Good luck to the U9 (2000) girls who will represent Cuala for the
first time in league action with a trip to Castleknock this coming
Sunday.
The U11 Hurlers (Red/White) face a table top clash with Faughs on
Saturday. Both sides are unbeaten after three weeks. The Blue/Green
group host Castleknock at Clonkeen College.
Please make any requests for training or matches at Thomastown Monday
to Friday through Rob Hartnett (rob@hmpr.ie). We will do our best
to accommodate all requests but it is important to remember that
the pitches are heavily used during the week, and knowing requests
in advance is the only way to ensure that everyone gets a fair shake.
Don't forget the Awards Night & Dinner Dance in Royal Marine
Hotel next Saturday 18th April. Tickets will be on sale from 8.30
to 10pm Wed, Thurs, Friday in Cuala Bar . Mary Lundy & Ann McHugh
are the ticket sellers.Event starts promptly at 8pm.
Thie Adult Fixtures for this weekend and next are attached below.
9 April 2009
U14 Girl's got their league campaign off to a good start in Thomastown
last Friday evening with a good win over St Anne's. The half time
score was 2-01 to 1-01 in favour of Cuala and there was nothing
between either team. The Cuala girl's came out a little bit more
determined in the 2nd half and scored some great goals to win comfortably
in the end with a final score of Cuala 8-04 St Anne's 1-03.
Cuala Minor Bs got their first win of the season at 12th Lock against
a skilful Lucan team. Cianan Crowley, Kevin McHugh, Colin Brock,
Fiachra Ó Brolchain and Donal Ennis in the 2nd half together
gave a magnificent defensive display while Shane Errity and Oisín
Breathnach dominated midfield with Eoin Collopy working tirelessly
at centre half forward. Three points from Oisín Misteil,
a great point from Shane Moran and a point each from half backs
Andrew Brady and Tadhg Blake gave Cuala a five point lead at half
time. Cuala upped the pace against the breeze in the 2nd half when
a great Shane Moran goal, two points from Eoin Brennan and a well
worked point from Maurice Goodwin kept Cuala ahead. Cillian Sullivan
added pace up front with Barry Sheanon giving a man of the match
performance with a goal and two points. A magnificent save from
Briain Ó Ruairc late on kept our goal intact and ensured
Cuala ran off deserved winners.
Hard luck to the Coláiste Eoin lads who were beaten last
week in the Colleges All-Ireland Hurling final by Cross and Passion
of Antrim.
Congratulations to John Sheanon on wining a Leinster U21 Football
medal with the Dublin last Sunday vs Laois.
Sunday last was another noteworthy day for Cuala hurling with 2
players starting on the Dublin Senior team against Clare in the
National Hurling league in Parnell Park. Well done to Oisin Gough
and David Treacy for doing the club proud. This is the first time
since the mid 1990's that Cuala have had more than one starter on
the Dublin Senior team in a competitive outing. With at least 5
Cuala players on the Dublin U21 team this year, the future looks
extremely bright both for Cuala and Dublin hurling in the coming
years.
Well done to the senior hurlers who recorded a comprehensive victory
over Crumlin in the league (AHL1) on Monday evening in Shankill.
The team now face a hectic schedule over the coming weeks with several
Dublin League and Leinster league games coming up shortly.
The intermediate hurlers (AHL4) maintained their unbeaten run in
the league at the weekend with a fine victory over Fingallians away
last Saturday evening. Well done to all involved.
Easter Camps and school of excellence were very well attended and
the players had a great time but not too late to sign up for hurling
next week and with coaches like Dave Curtin (Dublin Senior Hurler)
and our own Cuala and Dublin Senior Hurler David Treacy, Eoin Dunne
Cuala Senior Hurler and Coach, Shane O'Brien Cuala Senior Hurler
and Dublin Colleges Coach and Denis Byrne (Cuala Senior Hurler Manager)
you could not get better anywhere. So text Willie Braine at 086
0266506 or email williebraine@eircom.net
The county board are looking for the people in Cuala who have over
the years done a foundation course or level 1 course etc. There
is a new system coming into place and they need the names of these
people for future reference. If anyone has done such a course please
drop me an email here at CualaComm or ring Caroline Kenny (our ex-GPO)
on 085-1376650 with details. .

the Sunday Game.

each week from now on.
2 April 2009
U11 Red and White hurlers kept up their flying start to the season
with victory over Lucan Sarsfields and need one more win to secure
an A cup semi final place. The juvenile boys groups are back out
training on grass. Check with mentors for where and when for each
team. The Juvenile Night at the Dogs is booked for Thursday night
May 21st. Plenty more info to come over the next few weeks.
U13A footballers had a hard fought battle against Scoil Ui Conaill
but came out victorious.
Pride of place this week goes to the U.14B’s who beat a previously
undefeated Kilmacud Crokes, by the narrowest of margins. It was
a great team effort with Gavin Nolan and James McCarthy outstanding
in defence. Conor Murphy and Colman Keane did Trojan work in mid-field.
Cuala U15B Footballers had another great win in the league to lead
the table as the only team unbeaten to date. They travelled to Marley
Pk on Sunday morning to play a fancied Ballinteer St Johns, however
Cuala got off to a blistering start and led by 17 points after 20
minutes with a brilliant opening period from Midfielders Peter Gahan
and Scott Curtis and centre forward Dylan Kennedy who scored 5.
02. Ballinteer then brought on subs that settled their side and
stopped the rot. Ballinteer won the lions share of possession thereafter
however they had a mountain to climb especially with brilliant defensive
work from Jack "Butsie" Butler at full back, David Murphy
at corner back and the half back line of Luke Bailey, Jacob Brennan
and man of the match Robert McMahon. Ballinteer outscored Cuala
in the last 40 mins by 5 points leaving Cuala with a comfortable
margin at the end of 12 points.
U15A's had a great win against St Sylvester's in Malahide last Sunday
Morning. They were losing by 8 points 10 minutes into the 2nd half
they scores 3 great goals to win by 3-06 0- 09.
The forthcoming Cuala U13/14/15 School of Excellence has the potentialto
give 16 hours of football from 6th to 9th April and 16 hours of
hurling 14th to 17th but the numbers that turn up is vital. We have
excellent coaches each day such as footballers Donal Lehmann,Ger
Brennan (Dublin Footballer), Denis Monaghan so far and in hurling
Dave Curtin (Dublin Hurler), Shane O'Brien (Dublin Colleges), Denis
Byrne (Cuala Sen Manager) and Eoghan Dunne (Cuala Senior Hurler).
So make this an annual camp of excellence and encourage all your
available players to attend. Contact Willie Braine 087 2076807 for
more details or email attached application from to williebraine@eircom.net

Did I mention spring last week - well it seems to have
disappeared again.
Congratulations to the U11 Lions and Leopards footballers who qualified
for the semi finals of the A cup with a tense ad hard fought 4-17
to 4-14 victory at Lucan Sarsfields last Saturday. Well done also
to the Cougars and Jaguars who had a morale boosting win over Na
Fianna last Saturday. The Red and White hurlers bid to maintain
their 100 per cent record in the Hurling A cup this Saturday with
Lucan again providing the opposition. The Blues and Greens go west
for a date with St Brigids.
There will be a full meeting of the Juvenile committee next Tuesday
March 31st at 9pm. High on the agenda will be the signing off of
spring/summer training pitch allocations. All age groups should
be represented.

Well done to Coláiste Éoin on reaching the All-Ireland

by 1-15 to 0-8. Cuala players included Eoin Cronin, Colm O'Fearrell,
Eoin Lynch, Brian Murphy, Eoin Brennan and Mark Schütte. They
play Cross and Passion, Ballycastle, Co. Antrim in the final.
Well done to the Junior A hurlers who had a good win over Liffey
Gaels. Hard luck to Seniors and Junior Bs who had a narrow loss

Mixed fortunes for our camogie teams last weekend. U12s and U13s
had good wins in their opening league games against Whitehall and
Castleknock respectively. U11s were beaten by a very strong St.
Vincents however. The U13 footballers also had a big win against
Na Fianna in a challenge. This weekend in camogie U9s play Ballinteer
in a mini blitz, U11s play Oliver Plunketts and U13s play Raheny
Gaels.
Well done to the U11 hurlers who had a fine win over Oliver Plunketts
/ Eoghan Rua in the Phoenix Park last week. The footballers travel
to Lucan Sarsfields this week where victory will assure them of
an early place in the A Cup Semi Finals.
The Cuala Annual Awards Night & Dinner Dance will be held in
the Royal Marine Hotel on Saturday 18th April. This will be a wonderful
night to celebrate the successes of our Club on and off the field
of play. As last year, tickets are €60 and Mary Lundy and Ann
McHugh are co-ordinating ticket sales across the various age-groups
and games committees.
Congratulations again to Coiste Culturtha who organised the hugely
successful St. Patrick's Night Ceili and "seisuin" afterwards
in the Bar. This committee is going from strength to strength -
well done to all involved.
Well done to the Senior hurlers who reached the final of the Glynn
Barntown hurling Tournament on St. Patrick's day in Wexford. They
beat a star studded Mount Sion of Waterford featuring Tony Browne
and many other household names on the way to the final. The lads
were defeated narrowly in the final having played three matches
in a row previous to it. Well done to everyone involved. The team
now go to play St. Vincents away next Saturday evening at 4.30 in
the first round of the league. All support welcome.
Best wishes to the AHL 4 team who play Liffey Gaels in Dalkey on
Saturday evening at 4.30pm and the AHL 7 team who play Na Fianna
also in Dalkey on Sunday afternoon.
Cuala Senior Footballers played their first Senior league game against
St Brigids on Sunday last. The game finished in a draw 1-9 each.
Our first point in Senior Football was scored by Keith Keogh and
our first Goal scored by Ronan Sweeney. Thanks to all the support
who travelled out to the game.
Cuala in association with the Sports and Social Integration Project
will be running the 15th year of its popular Easter Camps this year.
Football runs from 10am to 2pm April 6-9 with Hurling from April
14-17. The camps are a great way for lads to develop further their
skills. Prices have been held at 2008 levels with €50 for each
or €80 for both. See attached Flyer for the forms or contact
Ken Fitz on 0876830296.
Lastly, am attaching adult fixtures for the week(end) ahead. Hopefully,
this will make it easier to find games that you are interested in
seeing. These are great games to watch, they are free and your support
is great encouragement for our players and community, so come on
out and cheer them on.
12 March 2009
Last Saturday, the celebrity Bainisteoir game was a fantastic
spectacle for all. The activities that were laid on including the
"Up for the Match" on Friday, the tented village, the
hall, the bar and the pitch were all a great success and would not
have been possible without the great help by many sections of the
club. The Adult Football Focus Group who organised the event would
like to express their thanks to all who assisted in any way to contribute
to this great day and especially to chief coordinator Willie Braine.
You all played your part and did us proud -Go raibh mile maith agaibh.
We'll start this weeks reports with the youngest:
Academy Fun Fashion Show 21st March Fitzpatricks Castle Hotel. Tickets
on Sale this Friday in hall from 5 to 7pm and Saturday 9.30 to 11.30am.
The U11 Footballers scored a big win over rivals Lucan Sarsfields
at Clonkeen last Saturday morning. They now sit on top of their
group in the A Cup and one more win from their last two remaining
fixtures will see them into the semi-finals.
Despite a good performance in their opening Division 1 camogie league
game last weekend the U11's f(1998's) were beaten by Naomh Olafs.
This weekend they have another tough assignment away to St. Vincents.
The U12's (1997's) and U13's (1996's) both commence their camogie
league campaigns this Saturday in Meadowvale. U13s play Castleknock
at 1.00pm, U12s play Whitehall at 2.00pm. The U13s also play Na
Fianna in a football challenge on Sunday in Meadowvale at 4.00pm.
Cuala Minor Bs put up a brave and tenacious display against an excellent
and physically tough St Vincents side in Division 4 of the Minor
Football League at St Anne’s Park. The final score did not
fairly reflect the balance of play during which Cuala produced some
great football. Outstanding work by Tadhg Blake and some great points
by Seán Moran and an excellent score from Seán MacAodh
kept Cuala in touch. Unfortunately St.Vincents were more accurate
scorers and ran out ultimate winners despite further great scores
by Seán Moran and outstanding defending in a man-of-the-match
performance from Cianan Crowley which was a highlight of a second
half display. This gritty display will surely have laid a solid
foundation for certain success for this team in the future.
Well done to the Senior hurlers who started the season with a good
victory over Faughs in the Boland Cup on Sunday morning.
Hard luck to all Cuala players on the Dublin Colleges team who were
defeated by Castlecomer last weekend in the Leinster Schools A quarter
final and well done to Colaiste Eoin in winning the Leinster Colleges
B Final on Wednesday.
The Junior A hurlers were defeated narrowly by Na Fianna in the
League Final in Mobhi Road on Sunday afternoon. Hard luck to everyone
involved. Despite the result at the weekend the team still had a
hugely successful year - Well done to everyone involved.
DLR CC are applying for planning permission to develop the Hyde
Rd pitch to include flood lighting and back-netting. Please do your
bit and print out the above generic letter of support, sign it and

letter helps!
Finally, we started this version of the newsletter talking about
the the Cuala Intermediate Footballers but we will finish talking
about the Cuala Senior Footballers! Last Monday evening, in Parnell
Park, was a significant night for Cuala GAA Club when we managed
to overcome a very good St Peregrines side to launch ourselves back
into Senior Football after approx 17years at Intermediate level.
It was a lightening game in terrible conditions - but the quality
of the football would have graced Croke Park in September. Great
congratulations are due to the management team and players for the
tremendous effort they have put in over the past 12 months to get
to this stage.
4 March 2009
Well, as we all know the big news this week is Celebrity

Well done to the U10 Lions, Leopards and Jaguars who secured two
strong wins and a hard fought draw against Thomas Davis and Naomh
Olafs last weekend.Good luck to U9 to U12 hurlers who get their
campaigns underway this Saturday. There will be a full meeting of
the Juvenile Committee next Tuesday 3rd March at 9pm.
U13s had a great win over Thomas Davis in a cracker in Thomastown
last Saturday. Some really good football from both teams but Cuala
lads had greater resolve. Some outstanding performances from Dara
Twomey, Dylan Treacy and Donal "Dependable" Lane.
U14 footballers take a trip to Nemo Rangers this week-end to try
and retain the cup won by last year's Cuala U14s. U14Bs had a big
win over Scoil Ui Chonaill last weekend. Well done Patsy Greene
and team.
U15B footballers had another good win last Sunday morning at home
in Thomastown to Man O'War. After a very tense opening twenty minutes
with only one point in favour of Cuala the match started to open
up a bit. Man O'War squandered many chances and left the door open
for Cuala. Cuala led at half time by 1 goal and took to the field
tin the second half with renewed determination. Cuala completely
dominated the second half and worn down the opposition with their
superior fitness and came out winners 4.04 to 1.05. Man of the match
for Cuala was Jacob Brennan at Centre back closely followed by Dylan
Kennedy and Peter Gahan.

primarily to provide secretarial and administrative support to the
County Officers and County Committees. Applications, including career
