30 June 2010
I'm not sure about you but I'm looking forward to the summer break:
The Under 10 boys (2000s) rounded off this part of the season in
the now traditional way with a Mini All Ireland competition in Thomastown
over the last week. The lads continue to show great determination
and enthusiasm, and no little skill, both in the Mini All Ireland
and in their regular Go Games each Saturday.
The girls juvenile pre summer season is almost at a close with only
the U14s (1996s) still in action with one remaining camogie league
game to secure a play-off for second spot in their league. There
were some great league campaigns overall with the U11s (1999s) coming
second in their football league and the U13s (1997s) in joint top
spot in their camogie league with a play-off after the summer. The
U10s (2000s) also put in some great performances winning most of
their camogie and football games in non competitive leagues. The
Under 12 (1998) Girls also secured second place in the Division
2 Camogie League, and promotion to Division 1, with a hard fought
victory over Raheny last Saturday. Alongside retaining their Div
1 status in Football, this was a great achievement by the girls
and a great return on all of their hard work in training and matches.
A number of the younger juvenile boys groups will be having informal
puc and cic arounds over the summer break. Please check with mentors
to see if anything is planned for your age group. If you are not
staying with your lad, always make sure the session is on before
leaving them out of the car as mentors need a break as well and
there will be some sessions that do not take place.
All players from 5 to 15 don’t forget the Cuala Summer Camp
starts next Monday! So if you forget to register do today, call
Susan in the office rom 9.30 to 12.30 at 2350717 or come on down
on Monday morning before the rush at 9.30 and register on the day.
Well done to the U15's (1995's) their "A" team had a 4
point win over Kilmacud Crokes in Hurling last Sunday morning and
their "B" team a good win over Lucan sarsfield on Tuesday
night. The "A"s also had a great win over Ballyboden in
the league on Thursday
Senior Footballers continue their league campaign with an away league
match at St Marks on Saturday evening. Throw in 6.30 , all support
welcome.
The Cuala Ladies were beaten by St Finian's last Wednesday who had
their revenge on the drubbing given to them in Hyde Rd last week.
. A penalty awarded in the dying moments gave Cuala a goal which
took the bare look of the scoreline so we came away with a 5 point
deficit, 0-16 to 1-08. Probably no game next week as the opponents
have pulled out of the League.
Here's something for the girls - there is 10% off for Cuala girls
enrolling with www.sewingdublin.com. Something to keep you busy
over the summer and make something useful too? (boys welcome too!)
24 June 2010
We have it all this week - sad news, good news, fun and serious
stuff..
Condolences to Damien, John Paul and all the Byrne family on the
death of their father Michael yesterday.
Good luck to the 1997s who are involved in the PJ Troy tournament
this weekend.
Summer camp filling fast...but not fast enough!! We are trying to
minimize the amount of people who register on the first day to maximise
the amount of coaching time. So please parents pre-register the
kids and it will greatly help the coaches with advance planning
and preparation.
Well done to 2002 girls mentors who had an enjoyable coaching workshop
with the coaching department coaches in the club on wednesday evening
The U12 Lions footballers sit clear at the top of Division One after
big margin wins over Lucan Sarsfields and St Mary’s Saggart
last week. The U12 hurlers have entered two teams in the Camáint
competition which takes place each Wednesday evening during July.
There will be a number of groups playing and meeting at Thomastown
over the Summer. If any mentors intend using the Thomastown pitch
through July and August, please advise rob@hartnettpr.ie or sconnolly@eircom.net.
The Juvenile Boys Night at the Dogs will take place at Shelbourne
Park on Thursday, September 30th. For tickets and or sponsorship
opportunities please contact rob@hartnettpr.ie.
Cuala Ladies had a good win over visitors St Finian's Swords on
Wednesday evening in Hyde Park. Despite being a few numbers short
because of the tail end of the exams, holidays and one injury, the
team really got to grips with the game in the second half having
put in a lacklustre first period. At the final whistle the scoreline
was 3-10 to Cuala and 1-10 to the visitors. We are visiting Swords
next week in the Cup where no doubt they will seek their revenge.
We'll keep you posted.
Its not all doom and gloom on the inter county scene as the Dublin
U21 hurlers defeated Kilkenny last night by 6 points in Nowlan park
to make the Leinster final. There were 4 players from the Dublin
senior panel and also 4 Cuala men involved, Oisin Gough,David Treacy,
Colm O'Farrell and Paul Schutte. We wish David well in his recovery
from a hamstring injury sustained in the game.
The Cuala Registrar is finalising the club's listing of Paid Members
for 2010. Over the coming weekend, a complete list of "Full"
(over 18) Paid-up Members will be published on the Noticboard and
on the Web. Juvenile and Social Members will not be listed). In
a club of our size, there is likely to be some oversights - for
which we apologise in advance. We need your help to ensure the integrity
of our data. If you have paid full membership for 2010, have a look
and make sure you are listed.
Finally, dont forget the Adults 70's Disco this Friday 25th in the
Cuala Hall. A great night dancing assured to all your favourite
hits from the 70's and 80's. Doors open 8.30pm and dancing continues
til midnight. Full bar and table service. Bring your friends and
neighbours and come along and support the Gaelic4Mothers team. Tickets
Eur10 at the door. Bottle of Blue Nun for best costume for those
that are brave enough to pull on the flares and snazzy shirts (I
can think of a few).
17 June 2010
Dubs squeak by while the Munster giants slog it out - looks like
the senior championship is well and truly up and running.
The 1997 girls camogie team had a great victory over Barrogs 7-7
to 0-2 on Saturday. This would not have been possible without the
help of the 1999's girls, who were brilliant. The decisive match
is this Sunday, June 20th away to St. Judes at 11am. We are hoping
that a fantastic mix of 97's and 98's will bring League silverware
home to Cuala. All parental support is needed and welcome. This
Sunday morning, 20th June. Meeting at Meadowvale at 10am.
This is a busy week for the U12A’s with two football and two
hurling matches. It has been a great start with a 3-13 to 0-6 win
away to Lucan in football on Tuesday and a 6-05 to 3-12 win away
to Ballyboden in hurling leaving both sides sitting atop their respective
Division One league tables. They play Fingallians in hurling and
St Mays in Football before a well earned rest.
The U13 footballers had two great wins over Skerries Harps and St
Peregrines last weekend and are doing well now at the head of Divisions
2 and 7.
Our thoughts are with Edel Marray, Mother of Oisin in the U12’s,
whose own Mother passed away last weekend.
Last Saturday saw our 1997 Blue and Red football teams win their
respective matches to keep them second and joint leaders in their
leagues.Keep it up lads, great work. Two more football matches this
week against Bray and Parnells.

10 June 2010
Its nearing the juvenile summer break - cue relieved mentors, distressed
parents. Good luck to all those doing exams. Agus anois an Nuacht:
Well done to our U9 girls football team that was entered in an U10
single team group to provide matches this year and is currently
three points clear at the top of the table.
Best of luck to the Cuala U11 Girls who play in the league final
on Friday evening at 6.30 in Russell Park. All support welcome.
Juvenile Girls are running their second Girls Rock event in Cuala
on Friday 18th from 7 - 9pm. Admission is only €5. All girls
welcome, bring your friends and their friends.
Cuala Ladies notched up a win over rivals Clann Mhuire on Weds night
in Hyde Park to bring the tally of games between the sides this
season to 2 in our favour to 1 against. It was a game of two halves
with the swirling wind and we were 4-8 to 1-4 up at the break having
loaded the forwards. Playing into the breeze and defending heavily,
the game plan worked and the big lead kept the game in Cuala's favour.
Cuala 4-9 v Clann Mhuire 3-11. No game next week so its training
and then back to the League.
Jumbo Plant Sale, BBQ etc in aid of Crumlin Children's Hospital
Sunday 13th June from 10am in The Cuala Hall. Please support this
great cause and get some blooming great bargains.
Well done the U12 Cuala Leopards footballers who scored 6-12 in
beating Lucan Sarsfields 2nd team on Tuesday night.
Good luck to the U13 boys football teams who could go top of divisions
two and seven respectively with victories this weekend.
Best wishes to Cuala senior Footballer Michael Fitzsimons who has
been selected on the Dublin team for their Leinster senior championship
opener against Wexford this Sunday. First Cuala representative on
Senior team since 1985?. Well done Mick.
The 2000s are running a bus to the Dubs match on Sunday - leaving
Dalkey at 1:15pm, first come first serve.Tickets a €5.
Cuala's Cooling Department gets Warm Reception. Damien Byrne and
his team took to the drink on Monday - but all in a good cause as
'waterboys' (& girls) for the Women's Mini-Marathon. Resplendent
in pale pink, the lads were quite the picture as they dispensed
water and encouragement in equal measure to the record-breaking
field of over 40,000. You can see for yourselves at the Cuala Gallery

Your Website Needs You:We are about to do a complete overhaul of
our website. We need volunteers who'd be prepared to devote a small
amount of time each week, consistently over say, a season. No hurling
of football expertise is required for these jobs. In fact, if you're
reading this on email or the website, you probably have most of
the skills needed already so read on. We need amateur (1)Reporters
who would author short reports on matches, events, developments
in and beyond the Club, (2)Web Publishers: to help us publish the
material on the site (we'll train you) and (3)Webmasters: who will
help us to maintain the site. Okay, a little more expertise is needed
here but its not rocket science - we're a GAA Club, not the Google
Appreciation Association. Skills in Wordpress or similar would be
useful. Interested? Great - please contact any of the Games Chairpersons
or write directly to Michael Goodwin at goodwinm@iolfree.ie - we'll
be delighted to hear from you.
W e have extended the early booking discount period for the Cuala
summer camp until next Friday 18th June. Forms will be availabe
at the Academy on Saturday mornings and at the mini All-Ireland
next week. Please use the attached form
4 June 2010
We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Byrne family
on the death of Stephen 'Saus' Byrne RIP, who passed away last weekend.
Stephen was a prominent Cuala member, winning an U16 Championship
in 1981 and many more since, as well as managing the junior hurling
team. Stephen had many friends in Cuala and will be sorely missed.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
The U14 girls team had a great day in Belfast last Saturday playing
2 football and 2 camogie games vs Ardoyne, Na Piarsaigh, Naomh Eanna
and Naomh Pol. They followed this up with iceskating with the Ardoyne
girls, shopping in town and topping it off with a meal before piling
onto the bus for home. The even managed to win their football league
match the next day vs Erin Go Bragh!! Thanks to all who helped out
at the weekend.
The Under 16s Girls finished their league second from the top and
will collect the silver medals. It was a tough group with the gold
going to last years All Ireland Feile winners, Ballyboden St Endas.
The clash between the two happened on 21st March last when we were
away in Cherryfield and there was only 4 points in it. Well done
Girls!
Cuala ladies came up against Dublin's sharpshooter Lauren Ebbs in
their cup match last Wednesday against Namoh Barrog. Lauren put
the icing on the cake out in St Annes Park with a goal in the dying
minutes. In a tight game , Naomh Barrog finished with two more points
with the final tally Naomh Barróg 5-6 : Cuala 3-7.
Only a few places left on the teams of mothers taking part in the
first ever Cuala Gaelic4Mothers Mini All Ireland next week. Beginners
welcome. Contact Eileen Quill 087-2241032.
U14 boys had a very strong win against St.Vincent in the league.
Some scintillating football played.
Please find the summer camp application form attached. All info
is within so print off and send to the Cuala office.
Dont forget to return the World Cup competition forms. If they have
caused half as much debate in your house as mine then you probably
need more forms.
Well done to all those who took part in the Primary schools blitz
in Thomastown. Some pictures courtesy of Michael Goodwin. Well done
to Coaching Willie and Ken for a great event. http://picasaweb.google.com/CualaGAA/SchoolsBlitzJune2010#
Well done to the Senior footballers who beat Ballinteer on Wednesday
last in the AFL2 league. They also managed a draw Saturday last v
local rivals Kilmacud Crokes so a good week for football.
28 May 2010
Lots of action going on as the exams and summer break hoves into
view. Apologies up front for all the attachments this week but important
forms/info included:

born in 2002, 2003 and 2004 takes place in Hyde Road from Monday
the 14th of June to Saturday the 19th of June. Registration takes

week; Referees are required for so please contact Ken Fitz or Willie
Braine for details.
Well done to the U12 Lions for a hard fought but well deserved win
over Kilmacud Crokes in the U12 Football League Division One last
Friday night at Thomastown. There were scores from no fewer than
eight of the team but it still needed a well struck pressure kick
from Jack Hartnett in the tenth minute of additional time to seal
the points.
Congratulations to the U12 and U11 Hurlers who made up almost the
entire panel from Johnstown National School that won the Corn Fianna
Fail in the Cumman na mBunscoil at Croke Park last Monday afternoon.
Emmet Murphy captained the side to their extra time victory in the
blazing sunshine. Well done to Margaret Fitzsimons, Finbarr Murphy
and Kevin Spain for managing things on the sideline.
Hard luck to the U13 down to U9 girls of Scoil Lorcáin who
missed out in their Cumman na mBunscoil final on the same day and
to our players at Scoil san Treasa, Taobh na Coille who went down
themselves on the same afternoon. As a rough estimate there were
about 40 Cuala players on show on the hallowed turf over the course
of a single afternoon. Surely some kind of a record.
Our U9 Girls look to have a bright future based on their excellent
victory over Kilmacud Crokes on Sunday morning at Meadowvale. The
girls ran out 14-11 winners after a 40 minute game in very warm
sunshine. Grainne O’Driscoll, Grace Nash, Rachel Hartnett
and Riona Mulally all put in very strong performances.
The Cuala U14 (1996) girls camogie and football team go on tour
this weekend with a trip to Ardoyne in Belfast to play in a mini
tournament in camogie against the host club and St Endas and in
football against St Pauls and St Galls.
There will be a full meeting of the Juvenile Boys Committee at the
club at 9pm next Tuesday evening, June 1st.
Friday night's U15 Disco in Cuala is postponed due to unforeseen
circumstance and will be rescheduled.
See attached application form for young coaches who wish to help
out during the Summer Camp. Details are on the form but one stipulation
is that coaches must be 14 years of age.

so if there are any mothers (or aunts or older sisters) out there
who want to have a bit of fun please contact Eileen Quill 087-2241032
for details. All the current squad are beginners so don't let that
stop you.
Hard luck to the Senior Hurlers who were pipped by a point by St.Brigids
in the league last Saturday. The Seniors are playing a challenge
match against Na Fianna in Shankill on Saturday 29th May 6pm
Condolences to Cuala members, Sean Murphy, Ronan Jack and Colman
McKenna and their families on the death of their grandmother Geraldine
McKenna.
Dubs supporters - *Important* - see attached document for Dublin

Dont forget the World-Cup draw - only a €5 per entry and good
fun over the course of the competition. Of couse I know you will
all be focussed on the GAA but sure in the week-day evenings you
might have a look at it?
20 May 2010
The Juvenile Girls committee would like to thank everyone in the
Club who helped make the Camogie Feile last weekend so successful.
Cuala were unlucky to not get to the semi-finals but, despite this,
a great day was had by all. Thanks to all who dropped in sandwiches,
cakes etc. on the day.
The 1997 girls camogie team are in action again this weekend The
girls remain are at the top of their league following a win against
Ballyboden 3-6 to 4-1 last week. However, the panel is reduced to
12 players and is not sustainable into next year without more players.
If anyone can help us recruit at least 5 players, please text Olga
Barry at 085 763 1251 or contact Sile Wallace, Linda Farren or Fiona
Nash. We urgently need your help.
Well done to the U14 boys who were in Feile Hurling action last
weekend. In a tough group one strike of the sliotar separated the
boys from making the semi finals on Sunday last. We live and learn!
Well done also to all the Colaiste Eoin lads who won the Leinster
Final in hurling last Friday. Arron Coleman ,Dylan Treacy,Jack McCabe,Con
O'Callaghan,Eoghan O'Naoire,Jake Malone,Daithi O'Murchu, Mairtín
Cahillane to mention a few.
Its that time of the year again so please find Summer Camp Application
Forms attached. The form is in two parts so detach both files to
get all the details.
The U15 Boys are returning the compliment and running a disco for
2nd/3rd year players, boys and girls on 28th May in Cuala GAA. With
the one and only RTE Dara Bass as DJ this promises to be a great
night. Tickets are available from Colin Behan at 085 7380742 or
any of the Cuala U15 mentors.
You must check out this - Rob Hartnett on TV? Check out the Cuala
website www.cualagaa.ie. to see details about the World Cup forecast
competition. There is a fantastic video explaining the competition
done by Rob Hartnett. Better watch out Des - this man is good on
camera! Oh and please support this important fund-raising initiative
and maybe win a few bob too.
Attached is flyer for Céilí Mór in Cuala Hall
on Saturday night 22 May at 21.30.All Welcome. The Cuala Music Session
is also on Saturday nigso should be a good night.
Now for some match reports . Intermediate Championship Round 1,
Cuala 2-16 Round Towers Lock 0-08. A workmanlike performance from
the Cuala senior helped them to a good win over a depleted Lusk
side. Fresh from wining an All Ireland Under 21 medal Luke Keating
scored 7 points from play. Tougher examinations await Cuala as they
endeavor to return to senior championship football.
Adult Football League 10 South Croi Ro Naofa 0-5 Cuala 5-17, A comprehensive
win for Cuala returned them to top of AFL10 south. Mal Lawlor hitting
2-5 on the day.
Adult Football League 11 South Ballyboden st Enda's 1-08 Cuala 3-10.
The performance of the weekend. Despite going 7 points down in the
first ten minutes the Cuala 4ths regained their composure to run
out winners by 8 points. It was the full forward line of Derek Dunne
, Mick Kennedy and Paddy Murdock that caused all sorts of trouble,
the lads hitting 3-4 over the hour. Colman O'Drisceoil pulled the
stings from centre forward and also ended up with three points from
play, whilst Magnus Breatnach marshaled the defence brilliantly.
The selection of Johnny Sheanon ( 55 in August its rumoured) in
goal and his 17 year son Barry at wing forward sent Cuala historians
into a frenzy to try and work out the last time a father and son
represented Cuala in a competitive game.
Cuala Adult camogie are fundraising and you can help by doing a
spring clean of your wardrobe! We want your old clothes, household
linen, blankets, curtains, shoes, belts. All you have to do is put
your unwanted items in a bag, bring them to the Cuala hall next
Monday, May 24th between 6-00pm and 9-00pm or Tuesday, May 25th
between 4-00pm and 5-30pm. All items must be clean. Contact, Máire,
087 2797090, or Sheila at 087 2421783.
Hard luck to the Cuala Ladies who went out in the first game of
the championship to Clann Mhuire of The Naul last Wednesday. The
crossbar was dented on no less than 4 occasions in the game which
finished 5-13 to 2-11. Meanwhile, the Cuala U16 side came from a
2 point deficit at the half time last Sunday to overcome neighbours
Foxrock Cabinteely by 3-6 to 2-4 putting them in second place in
the league behind last years All Ireland Feile winners ‘Boden.
One more game required to clinch the silver medals against Scoil
Ui Chonaill next weekend. Also, many thanks to all who supported
the Ladies Table Quiz in the Club recently. This was organised by
the girls themselves and they packed the bar! Well done all.
Lastly we wish all the best to the Johnstown junior hurlers who
play in Croke Park against St.Pius next Monday at 1:45pm. Hopefully
one of many playing trips for these lads.
13 May 2010
Well we knew we had a good bunch of U21s, but how good was only
made abundantly clear last Saturday night in O'Toole Park. They
have done the almost impossible and won the championship in both
codes. Our lads were only magnificient and literally blew Craobh
Chiarain away winning on a score of 3-22 to 1-8. Its doubtful whether
any U21 team in the country could have lived with them last Saturday.
Fantastic displays all over the field. Many of these lads are dual
players and its great to see the dual player thriving. Some pictures
included below, expect to see them on the walls of Cuala for a long
time to come http://picasaweb.google.com/winnerallhr/CualaDublinU21AHurlingChampions2010?feat=email#5468999102972276258
and the report in the Herald http://www.herald.ie/sport/the-dubs/cuala-run-riot-to-conquer-craobh-2175490.html
. On a sad note, Rory Cole was seriously injured early in the game
in an accidental collision and had to be taken to hospital. We wish
Rory a very speedy recovery.

The highlight for the Juvenile Girls this weekend is the camogie
feile which Cuala are hosting in Thomastown. The 96 girls, managed
by Fintan Quill, are busy finalising their preparation this week
whilst there is a huge flurry of activity in the rest of the club
to ensure that Thomastown is ready for the event. There will be
8 teams participating in Division 3 and the event will start at
10am with a parade led by a Lone Piper. Joan O'Flynn, President
of Cumann Camógaíochta na nGael, will be attending
at approximately 3:30pm. Please try to drop into Thomastown at some
stage during the day to support the Cuala team.Cuala will be playing
at 10:30, 12:45 and 2:15. The semi finals will be held at 4:30pm.All
Cuala players and supporters are asked to park in the VEC, Sallynoggin,
which will be open from 9:15am-6:15pm. All donations of sandwiches,
buns etc. would be greatly appreciated.
The Juvenile Girls Committee would like to extend their condolences
to their Registrar, Mary O’Gorman, on the death of her mother,
Teresa, last weekend.
The U12 footballers suffered a double heartbreak last week with
the Lions losing the A Cup final by a single point despite playing
one man short for most of the game and leading until the last five
minutes. The Cougars also lost by the minimum margin after a thrilling
game that went all the way to extra time. The same groups hurlers
take centre stage this Sunday (Thomastown 12.15) with the Blue and
White groups playing in the semi finals of the Division 3 and 5
Cups.
There will be a general meeting of all parents in the U12 (1998)
group at the club on Tuesday evening, May 22nd. At least one parent
of each of the boys is requested to attend.
The U14 boys are also in Feile hurling action this weekend. Ballyboden
are hosts and first games throws-in at 10:45am in a tough group
that includes favourites Na Fianna, Ballyboden and Faughs. All support
welcome.

Here's a bit of fun, a bit of a flutter and hopefully will do the
club some good. Attached is a World Cup forecast promotion that
we are using for Cuala fundraising. The money raised will go into
central funds, which is badly needed. This can be an important fundraiser
for the club, if everyone makes an effort. Please forward to all
your games sections, contact list, work colleagues, friends, relatives
etc. and follow up to get completed forms returned as early as possible.
Hard copies of the document will be available in Cuala over the
next few days.
The Cuala U12s and Gaelic 4 Mothers were chosen to play the mini
games during the Ladies Football League Finals last weekend. The
Gaelic 4 Mothers team put on a great display vs St. Finians in Parnell
Park. They thoroughly enjoyed their first outing in the Cuala colours
and are looking forward to more. If any mothers are interested in
joining the fun, they train every Wednesday in Meadowvale 8-9pm.

Its going to be a busy weekend; We need everyone to support
the Cuala U21s who take on Craobh Chiaran in the Dublin Hurling
County final on Saturday at 6pm in O'Toole Park. Even if you rarely
go to games dont miss this one. We need everyone's support for this
historic occasion.
All sorts of fun events planned for La na gClub on Sunday next.
A parade will walk through Dalkely lead by a piper to the Cuala
Clubhouse where various games and events are planned including kids
games , traditional Irish music group and food in the bar.
Well done to the U14 boys who played some fantastic football in
last weekends Feile. In a tough group they boys were highly unlucky
not to advance, despite winning 2 of their 3 games and losing out
on score difference to two other teams on the same points.

Last weekend being the Bank Holiday was a quiet one for the girls
juvenile teams. Only the U10s (2000s) and U14s (1996s) were in action
and both had good wins against St Annes in the football league and
Bray Emmetts in a camogie challenge respectively. Busier this weekend
with most teams in action, the highlight being a top of the table
clash for the U14s (1996s) in camogie against Lucan. The U12s (1998s)
also have the honour of playing during half time of the Ladies Football
National League Final in Parnell Park on Saturday. They will be
joined by the Cuala Gaelic 4 Mothers team who will also be displaying
their footballing skills during the half time break.
The U12 footballers bid to pull off a unique double of doubles on
Saturday. The A footballers take on St Judes in the final of the
A Cup at Round Towers, Clondalkin at 2pm. At the same time on an
adjoining pitch the B footballers take on Templeogue Synge Street
in the final of the B Cup. We cannot recall a club getting to both
A and B Finals in the same year at this age group so well done to
the lads. All support from around the club will be welcomed for
what can serve as an appealing starter on a great day for the club.
Well done to the U12 B Hurlers who secured a semi final spot in
the Division 3 Cup this week with comfortable wins over St Peregrines
and Faughs. They join the C Hurlers who have already made it through
to the same stage at Division 5.
Although there were no competative fixtures arranged for the Bank
Holiday Weekend, the Cuala U15 Hurlers took part in the invitational
Cian Durken Memorial Tournament in Ballyboden on Bank Holiday Monday.
The lads gave a good account of themselves beating Dicksboro of
Kilkenny (Current Kilkenny and All Ireland Féile Champions)
and Ballyboden (Current Dublin Féile Champions) and narrowly
going down to Mallow (Current Cork Champions). Photos of the event
are available on the Cuala Website on http://picasaweb.google.com/CualaGAA/CianDurkenTournament2010#
.
The Cuala U15 boys are organising a fundraising Disco for 2nd and
3rd Years in Cuala Hall on Friday 28th of May. Tickets will be available
from U15 Mentors from early next week get your tickets early as
demand is likely to outstrip supply!
Congratulations to Clonkeens U14 Hurlers who beat Mac Dara's in
O'Toole Park on Wednesday to win the Division 2 Dublin Colleges
Crown. All bar 2 of the team are Cuala players. See Herald match
report here http://www.herald.ie/sport/schools/hurling-clonkeens-class-shows-2167146.html
. We will have a link to match photos in next weeks email.
Commiserations to the Cuala players on Colaiste Eoin team who lost
the Dublin Schools Senior Football A Final during the week. See
Herald match report here http://www.herald.ie/sport/schools/gaelic-football-benildus-are-brawn-to-win-2167142.html
. The Junior team however had a good win in their game.
Congratulations to Luke Keating on winning an U21 All-Ireland medal
with Dublin last weekend against Donegal.
Many former pupils of C.B.S. Eblana Avenue, Dun Laoghaire will be
saddened to hear of the passing of Brother Frank Mc Govern, who
was a former Principal at that school. Brother Mc Govern was responsible
for introducing the hurley and sliotar to hundreds of boys during
his tenure at Eblana Avenue. Many of those same boys went on to
become lifetime members of Cuala G.A.A. Club. The news of Brother
Mc Govern's passing came too late for anybody to attend his funeral
but a Mass Card and short message of condolence was forwarded to
his sister, Patricia, on behalf of all members of the Club who knew
of him.
Badminton players still have some spaces if anyone is interested
in playing on Monday nights. Contact Derek Spain on osullivanspain@eircom.net
Cuala Ladies scored their third successive victory in the League
last night in Dalkey. Having overcome the two North County teams,
Garristown and Clann Mhuire in the past fortnight, the home side
saw off the challenge mounted by Naomh Barróg with a 2-13
to 2-6 victory. We have a week off and then straight into the Championship
qualifier rounds.
Cuala Gaelic 4 Mothers and the Under 12s are providing the half
time display during the Ladies National League Finals next Saturday
[8th May] in Parnell Park. Both Cuala Ladies Refs are also in Parnell
Park on Saturday where they will take charge of the Mini-games during
the Division 1 final. Good luck to all
29 Apr 2010
Good luck to the U14 boys who are in Division 1 Feile Football competition
this weekend. First game Saturday 10:45am Silverpark near Leopardstown
racecourse. All noisy boisterous support welcome:
Last weekend was a busy one for the girls juvenile teams. The U10s
(2000s) fell to their first defeat in the U10 football league narrowly
loosing out to Crokes on Saturday but they more than made up for
it with a big win in their opening camogie league game against Ballyboden
on Sunday. In other games, the U12s (1998s) were beaten by a very
strong O'Tooles in football while the U14s (1996s) lost our narrowly
to Crokes in a camogie challenge Saturday but beat Thomas Davis
in the football league on Sunday. The U14s (1996s) also had a great
win in camogie in a top of the table clash against Erin Go Bragh
mid week. It's much quieter for the Bank Holiday weekend however
with only the U10s in action on Saturday against St Annes in the
football league and U14s (1996s) with a camogie challenge against
Bray Emmetts on Monday.
They walked onto the pitch as boys, and celebrated after as boys,
but for 60 minutes on Saturday the 15 lads of the Cuala U12 Lions
became giants...What’s more the Cuala Cougars matched the
feat on Wednesday in Thomastown and both U12 sides are through to
the respective finals of the A and B Cups. There are full match
reports from The Lions victory over Lucan and the Jaguars victory
over St Annes, together with some great pictures taken by Colin
Behan on the Cuala 98’s blog at www.cuala1998.com. The finals
take place back to back at Round Towers, Clondalkin on Saturday
May 8th on what promises to be a great day for the club.
Thank you all the Juvenile mentors who accommodated midweek matches
at Thomastown on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please advise Stephen or
Rob if you have any matches over the coming weeks that might require
other groups to adapt their training space.
U15A's (95's) had a great win away to St Vincents on Sunday with
a scoreline of 1-6 to 3-12. This result combined with favourable
results elsewhere leaves the lads joint leaders of Div 1 Hurling.
The lads are also sitting on top of Division 1 Football.
Well done to Clonkeen College U14 Hurlers who are almost exclusively
Cuala players on beating Castleknock 2-18 to 1-4 to reach the Dublin
Schools B Hurling Semi Final. (Some great photos of the match available
at this link http://picasaweb.google.com/colinbehan/20100423ClonkeenVCastleknockHurlingSemiFinal#
)
Well done also to the Cuala lads who aided Coláiste Eoin
to Victory against Coláiste Mhuire in the Leinster Schools
Junior Football "A" Final. (Match report from Evening
Herald here http://www.herald.ie/sport/schools/gaelic-football-eoin-lock-up-leinster-title-2147709.html
Congragulations to minor footballer Jake Russel Carroll who played
for Dublin minors in the Ulster/Leinster minor league final and
who scored a point from left half forward in their emphatic 12 point
win against Tyrone.
Great win for the senior footballers against St Pat's Palmerstown
last Saturday night who despite going into the break 5 points down
turned in a great second half performance to win by 4 points. They
scored 4 goals on the night with the last scored by minor Adam Hudson.Hard
luck to the Junior footballers who lost their second round Junior
football championship match to a strong intermediate league St Brigids.
The very best of luck to Brigids for the remainder of the competition.
Finally the last word goes to the Junior D championship team who
had a comprehensive win over St Finians of Swords. Paul Cahill impressed
with 1-5 from play.
Hard luck to the Senior hurlers who were defeated by St.Brigids
last night.
The U21 Hurling County final is set for 6pm Saturday 8th May in
O'Toole Park. Our second county final in the grade - albeit we now
in a different calendar year. Just like that great semi eagainst
Ballyboden, we need everyone's support so don't miss it.
Finally would like to remind everyone that the Cuala Jersey and
Official playing kit is our unique team identity badge on the field
of play. We show our pride in our club and team through the proper
wearing of our official gear. There is only one standard of official
team playing kit which must be uniformally worn by all teams across
all games sections. The official Cuala kit comprises of the Official
Colours , Cuala Crest, Team Jersey (Home or Away), Shorts/Skorts
and Socks. Examples of official team gear are on display in the
Cuala clubhouse and shop. Exceptions to the official team kit style
are not allowed.

Well done to our U14 girls who represented the club in last weekend's
Feile.
The U14 (1996) girls represented the club proudly at the football
Feile last weekend. Unfortunate to have been drawn in a very tough
group, they were desperately unlucky to only draw against Robert
Emmets but were beaten by the eventual winners and the runners up
O'Tooles and St. Sylvesters. The focus now turns to the camogie
feile in less than 4 weeks time.
Many thanks to Cork dual All Star and multi All Ireland winner Mary
O'Connor who trained the U14 (1996) camogie Feile team last Wednesday
night. There was a great turn out from both the panel and spectators
alike.
A busy weekend ahead for the girls juvenile teams. U10s (2000s)
play Crokes in U10 football league on Saturday in Meadowvale and
commence their U10 camogie league on Sunday away to Ballyboden.
U12s (1998s) face O'Tooles on Sunday in football while the U14s
(1996s) play Crokes in camogie Saturday and Thomas Davis in football
on Sunday.
Big weekend for the U12 footballers. The Lions take on Lucan Sarsfields
in the A Cup semi final at Clonkeen at 1.30 on Saturday, straight
after the Cougars have played St Mary’s for a guaranteed spot
in the B Cup semi finals.
There was a strong hurling performance through the grades at U12
last weekend with our Blue, White and Green hurlers recording victories
in divisions 3, 5A and 5B. Well done to the Green group in particular
who have been having a tough time of it but stuck to their training
and secured a great win against Ballinteer St John’s second
team. The Red Hurlers went down to Ballyboden in Division 1 at Ballycullen
on Wednesday night.
Great wins again this week for the U15A's and B's. The B's bet St
Judes 6-4 to 0-4 in Tymon north while the A's bet Balinteer St.
Johns at home with a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-4 leaving them top of
Division 1.
Under 13A's and B's both won last weekend. the A's beat Balinteer
3-12 to 3-6 while the U13B's had a great win over Na Fianna leaving
both teams top of their respective leagues with 3 wins out of 3.
There's some great action photos of the B's match on the Cuala Photo
Gallary (Click here to view http://picasaweb.google.com/CualaGAA/97SU13SVNaFianna#
). Hurlers take on Castleknock this weekend. Keep up the great attendances
at training
Our own Des Cahill is up for sports presenter of the year, so was
hoping the members could give him a bit of support. Here is the link

On last Friday, the 16th April, in glorious sunshine at Woodbrook
Golf Club, the inaugural ‘Mick Holden Memorial Golf Classic’
sponsored by The Dubs of ’83, took place. And what a day it
was! Over 40 teams, representing the many strands of Mick’s
life, competed for the trophy and prizes. Family, old friends and
colleagues enjoyed a celebratory evening meal in friendly and good-humoured
atmosphere – it was a fitting tribute to Mick Holden.
Best of luck to our footballers who have a busy weekend ahead. See
fixtures list below. All support welcome and no excuses for not
attending all these home games!
The Senior Hurlers play in the first round of the Senior Hurling
Championship away to St Brigids on Wednesday next 28th April - all
support welcome. Juniros are also out next week

Lets hope volcanic ash won't stop the weekend games. Lots of info
below as the season gets into full swing
Cuala under 11 girls continue their great run in the football league
with another win last Saturday. That's 4 out of 4, putting them
proudly at the top of the league table in this their first year
in competive football leagues.
It's been a good week for the 1996 girls football and camogie team.
The girls had a great win against Castleknock in camogie on Wednesday
and the previous Sunday they recorded their biggest win of the season
in football against Erin Go Bragh with Ceithleann Ni Chonluain scoring
7 goals (is this a Cuala record?). It was the perfect preparation
for the football Feile which is on this weekend. The Cuala girls
have been drawn in a tough group against St. Sylvesters, O'Tooles
and Robert Emmets, games to be played in Malahide. Details of all
games are on the Cuala girls calendar www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls
- please give the girls your support.
Congratulations to the U10 girls who recorded a great victory in
their first every football league game against a very strong Ballyboden
St Endas team last weekend and well done also to the 1998s who recorded
back to back wins last weekend against Good Counsel in camogie and
Clontarf in football.
Cork dual All-Star and holder of 7 senior All Ireland medals, Mary
O'Connor is taking the Cuala Feile team for a camogie coaching session
next Wednesday at 6.30pm in Hyde Park. Mary is the Director of Coaching
Development for Cumann Camógaíochta na nGael and will
be signing autographs for the younger girls afterwards and all are
welcome.
Well done to the U12 Lions who got their Division 1 campaign off
to a flyer beating Ballyboden St Endas by 2-13 to 1-09 at Clonkeen
on Saturday. The Cougars, Leopards and Jaguars started off against
some of the strongest teams in their divisions but gave a very good
account of themselves.
Enjoy the good weather while it lasts but please be careful if kicking
or pucking balls around in open spaces. One careless strike can
damage property or hurt passers by so please be careful about your
surroundings and save the real power shots for game time. With a
lot of midweek games scheduled over the coming weeks, please watch
out for information from team managers about times and locations.
Team managers please make sure you have cleared the use of a pitch
so that alternative arrangements can be made for those who would
otherwise be training there.
There is a mountain of lost property left behind from the Easter
Camp. This can be collected from the first dressing room at the
end of the Cuala Hall until Saturday 24th, after which time it will
all be given away to charity. These include boots, Jersies, tops,
lunchoxes and water bottles.
Good win for 1997 hurlers last week against Faughs. Blue Football
Team play Ballinteer away and Red Football Team play Na Fianna away
this Saturday. Best of luck to all.
Advance notice of the division One Football Féile which will
take place in Silverpark on Saturday May 1st. Our U14 lads and mentors
would appreciate all the support we can muster throughout the day
for this showpiece of the Juvenile GAA calendar.
Two good wins for the minor footballers last Sunday, the A's beating
O Tooles comprehensively and the B's beating Lucan Sarsfields by
4-11 to 2-4 with Colman McKenna, Stephen Giblin and Paul Mahony
outstanding.
Best to luck to Jake Russell-Carroll and the rest of the Dublin
minor football squad when they face Kildare this weekend in the
Leinster Minor football championship.
Good wins last weekend for the Senior and third team adult hurlers
in their respective Leagues. Congratulations to Paul Schutte who
has got the call-up to the Dublin Senior Hurling team for the upcoming
Leinster Championships
Good luck to the Dublin hurlers who play Limerick on Sunday in Parnell
Park in a crucial relegation game in the National League

On Wednesday, April 21st Cuala will be very fortunate to have Mary
O'Connor, National Camogie Coaching Director come to Dalkey to give
the Féile na nGael team and some others a coaching session.
The session will be approx 6-30 to 7-30pm. If any if you would like
to come down to Dalkey on the evening you will be very welcome.
Mary O'Connor, hails from the Killeagh Club in East Cork. A brillant
ambassador for sport, Mary is the Director of Coaching Development
for Cumann Camógaíochta na nGael. She plays both camogie
and football for Cork. She holds five senior All-Ireland football
medals and last year captained the Cork football team to victory.
She has 7 senior All-Ireland camogie medals as well as National
League, county medals and interprovincial. She also holds one All-Ireland
club championship medal that she won with Granagh Ballingarry(Limerick)
when she was studying in Limerick. She holds All-Stars for both
games. Mary plays centre back for the Cork camogie side and she
inspires confidense in those around her. Scores often start with
Mary. She has a never say die attitude. She applies huge enthusiasm
to her job as Coaching Director. One would not be wrong in calling
Mary the 'Paudie Butler of camogie'! Cuala are extremely lucky to
have Mary come out to Cuala at this time
Well done to Harry Forde, Jack Hartnett, Liam Lysaght and Joseph
Mahony for playing their part in helping to bring the U12 Easter
Cup, played between North and South Dublin back to the Southside.
The lads were part of the Southside panel that took to Fingallians
pitches in Swords on Easter Saturday. They were presented with their
trophies by Dublin Senior star Paul Flynn who himself played in
this tournament in years gone by.
Good luck to the U11 and U12 Footballers whose Football League campaigns
get under way this Saturday.
1997's Both football teams doing well, with two wins each. Hurlers
out this Sat, win required against Faughs. Training at Thomastown
on Tues and Thurs 6-8.30.
The newly promoted Cuala U15A (95's) footballers continued their
fine form of late in Division 1 with a comprehnesive victory over
Kilmacud Crokes with a final score of 2-14 to 3-5 in Shankill last
Sunday week. That result leaves Cuala lying in 2nd place in the
league, 1 point behind Ballyboden but with a game in hand. The 95's
gained promotion from Division 2 last year when they also won the
Div 2 Féile in Dublin and were narrowly beaten in the Féile
Div 2 All Ireland Final. The 15A Footballer's next match is at home
to Balinteer on April 18th. While the 15A Hurler's are at home to
Na Fianna onApril 11th.
There will be a full meeting of the Juvenile Boys Committee at the
Club on Tuesday night, April 13th.
Despite the unseasonal and atrocious weather, the Cuala Easter Camps
were a great success. We had over 350 participants over the 2 weeks
and gave coaching jobs to over 60 cuala players of varying age groups
from senior to under 16 under the supervision of the coaching department,
Ken, Willie and Damian and ably assisted by John Dillon and Dónal
Lehmann. Great credit must also go to the mentors of the teams who
pushed the camps to the players and who will reap the dividends
both on the field of play and on the training field.
Senior Hurlers play League match against St Judes at 6pm in Tymon
North on Saturday; Jun A team play Faughs at 6pm in Shankill on
Saturday; 3rd Adult Hurling team play Perigrines on Sunday at 3pm

Condolences to Harry Roberts and his family on the death of his
mother after a long illness
The feedback from those who attended the Comedy night (myself included)
in the Pavillion Theatre last Thursday has been very positive. Everyone
who attended enjoyed the evening and from a fundraising point of
view it was a brilliant success. The acts were brilliant and there
were some guest appearances from "French Lady" and "Koala
GAA Club" also. The Adult Football Focus Group would like to
thank everyone who supported the event.

who could be counted-on to do the counter between 9:00 & 11:30.
We're also exploring options to open during the week too so if Saturday
is not an option and you could help out on a mid-week evening, please
let us know. Noreen McGowan or Laura Spillane will be delighted
to hear from you. Or you can drop a mail to the Cuala Office with
your contact details.
Lastly - if anyone knows the person who marked the pitch in Thomastown

The Juvenile Girls 2009 Year Books have now all been given out to
the 1996, 1998 and 2000 age groups. If anyone hasn't received a
copy please contact Fintan Quill for 'soft copies'.
Great performance by the 2001 girls in a mixed camogie and football
blitz against Ballyboden St Endas last week. There was great skill
and enthusiasm on show from our 32 girls that took to the Meadowvale
pitch, and we edged the games in both codes to bode very well for
the future. Great refereeing as well from some of our U12 boys that
took up the whistle for the first time.
A huge thank you to all the families who attended the Cuala St Patricks
Day Family Ceili. Hard to count heads as they were racing around
the hall but there must have been nearly 300 Cuala children dancing
last night. The display of Irish dancing at the interval by the
Cuala children was fantastic. Thank you to the parents who supported
the raffle in aid of Haiti which raised €350. Many thanks to
the U14 girls and their parents for organising the night and providing
the delicious sandwiches and cakes at the interval.
Good wins for the boys U12 Red, Blue and White Hurlers last weekend.
The Cougar footballers take centre stage this weekend with an away
game against Kilmacud Crokes. Cuala remain unbeaten with two games
to go as they race for a single spot in the B Cup final. A win on
Saturday and defeat for St Marys Saggart will secure a final spot.
The Lions are assured of a semi final appearance in the A Cup and
finish their qualifying group with a trip to Thomas Davis. The Leopards
and Jaguars have friendly fixtures against Ballyboden and Good Counsel.
Jack Hartnett, Joseph Mahony, Harry Forde and Liam Lysaght will
be representing Cuala and their respective teams on the U12 South
Dublin panel playing against our Northside neighbours in the Easter
tournament that takes place at Fingallians GAA Club on Easter Saturday.
U13 Boys Blue Football Team had a comfortable win over Bray Emmets
in their first League match. The Red Team had their first win in

Cuala Ladies get Silver! Cuala Ladies were runners-up in the 4th
Annual Marianne Costello Memorial Tournament on Saturday 13th March
last, held at Naomh Peregrin`s fine facility in Blakestown. Eight
teams were invited for this well-organised 9-a-side event, and the
Cuala squad of 12 showed no lack of fitness as well as great skill
in over-coming the hosts and Lucan Sarsfields in the group games,
going on to beat St. Maurs in the semis and thus qualify to meet
Round Towers Clondalkin in the final. However,Towers whom we had
lost to earlier, again came out on top in an entertaining final
despite the tactical management of Elizabeth Gregan and Stephen
McGovern, and the strong leadership on the pitch from captain Sarah
Egan. The hosts are to be complimented on the standard of organisation
and hospitality on the day. All in all, a positive boost for the
Cuala Ladies ahead of the forthcoming season!
There will be a Comedy night fundraising event in aid of Adult Football
to be held in the Pavillion Thertre on 01 April (eve of good friday)
Tickets are € 20 each. Acts booked for the night are Eleanor
Tiernan, John Colleary and Andrew Stanley. Please contact Ciaran
Irwin on 085 2571034 for tickets

when he was unable to continue

Another great win in Nemo - and more silver ware for Cuala, read
on:
Pride of place goes to the Cuala U14 boys who won the prestigious
Mick O'Brien tournament in Nemo Rangers last weekend for a record
4th time and in some style. The lads had a great weekend, firstly
meeting Cork dual star Eoin Cadogan before going on to beat Austin
Stacks comfortably in their first game. In fairness to Stacks it
was their second game in the space of 2 hours and Cuala suffered
the same fate in their second match losing to Valley Rovers by 2
points in a thriller. Points difference saw us into the A- final
against none other than St Vincents of Dublin who had beaten both
Nemo Rangers and the Gaelteacht of Kerry in their group. To make
it interesting, St. Vincents had demolished Cuala on the prior Thursday
in a league fixture. So game on. However a thrilling final saw Cuala
literally stun Vincents with power, skill and a just few tactics
and our lads were 9 points up before Vincents registered a score.
It only got better, with Cuala powering on in the second half and
we could afford to miss some gilt-edged goal chances before running
out winners 5-05 to 0-11. A great day out and pictures of the team
and proud captain Donal Lane with Colin Corkery attached below.
A fantastic weekend and the the boys were a credit to their club
and to their families.Well done to mentors John Twomey, Declan Schutte,
Kevina Malone,Frank Wolahan and yours truly.
The U14 girls will host their Feile Fundraising Disco in the Cuala
Hall this Friday 26th 8pm. 1st year and 2nd year boys and girls
welcome. Tickets €10 available from the team or Eileen Quill
on 087-2241032. The girls are putting a huge amount of work into
decorating the hall and providing loads of spot prizes and refreshments
to ensure this is a great success. Come along and support this latest
Cuala event.
This Saturday sees the last day of U14 girls cookies sales. We are
happy to report that the recipe will be on sale with the cookies
this week. The girls say a big thank you to everyone who bought
their cookies during the month of February.
Many thanks to Peadar O'Cofaigh O Broin, Ewan McGrath, Tom McGee
and Oisin McKenna for turning out for the U12s last week to help
them make a team.
Hard luck to the Colaiste Eoin lads who lost narrowly to CBS Kilkenny
in extra-time in the Leinster SHC semi-final on Wednesday last.
Lá Fheile Padraig is fast approaching. We are delighted to
announce that the Family Ceili will take place in the Cuala Hall

broke his pelvis last weekend. We hope you are recovering well Gerry.

Quill U14 mentor (087-2241032). Please support the U14 girls in
their Feile fundraising efforts.
Great wins last week for the U12 Lions, Cougars and Leopards. The
Lions face Kilmacud Crokes on Saturday as they continue their defence
of the Southside A Cup. The Cougars now sit on top of their B Cup
qualifying group and face fellow unbeaten challengers Templeogue
Synge Street. The Leopards travel to Good Counsel while the Jaguars
are at home to Naomh Olafs 2.
The now famous Academy Fun Fashion Show will be held in Fitzpatricks
Castle Hotel on the 24th April 2010, tickets cost €30. Contact
Breege English 086 1538 164 to book tickets. More details to follow
in the coming weeks.
The Easter school of excellence will soon be posted on the website.
This is an excellent camp for teenage players to develop skills
so watch out for details.
The U14s are down in Nemo this weekend for the annual Mick O'Brien
tournament and will have their work cut out for them.
The County Board are clamping down on all forms of aggressive behaviour
and abuse from the sidelines. Generally those who know the game
know the difference between strong support and stepping over the
line. If you encounter any behaviour from opposition teams which
you feel is unacceptable, bring it to the attention of the opposition
mentor and the referee at the end of the game and report it back
to either Rob Hartnett or Stephen Connolly. Where it is felt merited
we will lodge an official report with the County Board. The flip
side of this is that other clubs will take similar actions. If you
feel that a parent or a mentor of any of the Cuala teams is overstepping
the mark, do not be afraid to make your view known. This is underage
sport, being refereed by young guys who are making their way in
the world. Adults should behave like adults.
Best of luck to Oisin Gough and David Treacy who are named in Dublin
Senior Hurling side to face Waterford in the 1st round of National
Hurling League this Sunday! See the full details of the team here
http://www.hill16.ie/viewstoryhill16.asp?id=12123&mainheading=Word+on+The+Hill&viewstory=yes
Well done to Conor Gough who has been called up to Dublin U21 squad.
THe U21 Dublin final will now be delayed while an investigation
is conducted into the other abandoned semi-final.
Adult hurling matches begin next Sunday with 1st and 2nd teams both
playing Faughs in Cup games in Shankill at 12.30pm
Last call for Annual Subs for 2010 please.
12 Feb 2010
The Juvenile girls teams are now getting back into full
swing for the new year. The 1998s (U12s) recorded a great win against
Naomh Olafs in camogie last weekend and the 1996s (U14s) play their
first games of the year this weekend against Kilmacud Crokes in
camogie on Saturday and Foxrock Cabinteely in football on Sunday,
both games in Meadowvale. Despite the two games, the 1996 girls
aren't taking a break from their Feile fund raising however so please
continue your great support for their cookie sales on Saturdays.
Your support to date is much appreciated.
Well done to the U14s who had a strong win against arch-rivals Lucan
in Division 1 football. After a slow start the lads went on a devastating
run and ended up with 7 goals, winning by 11.
Well done to Michael Fitzsimons on making the Dublin Football team
to play Derry on Sunday. After his display in the U21 county final
against Crokes it was a no-brainer Mr.Gilroy! Match is on Saturday
night in Parnell Park. Check this link for details http://www.hill16.ie/viewstoryhill16.asp?id=12097&mainheading=Word+on+The+Hill&viewstory=yes
Speaking of U21s - as some of you will have heard - there is no
U21 hurling final this weekend. The other semi-final match between
Na Fianna and Craobh Chiaráin had to be abandoned last Saturday
as a result of a large altercation. An investigation is underway
and we await the outcome. It is likely to be several weeks.
We wish Billy Boland - father to Liam - a speed recovery from a
recent illness.
Music sessions continue in the bar on Saturday nights.
Lastly a not so pleasant bit of new. Cuala patrons are asked to
please respect the property and neighbours around Cuala. A scene
of devastation was evident last Sunday around Cuala, with broken
bottles and cans everywhere. Irrespective of the mess, this kind
of behaviour is just not socially acceptable. Folks this is our
club, we wouldnt let it happen outside our own front doors.
4 February 2010
Well now it is official - our U21 hurlers are in the County
Final after they outplayed a fancied Ballyboden outfit in an absolutely
absorbing contest. Our lads showed real mettle to pull through by
the minimum margin. It was a heroic performance all over the field.
The Cuala backline just refused to buckle under the intense efforts
of a much-vaunted Ballyboden forward-line. The Cuala forwards scored
some inspirational scores ending up at 2-9 to 1-11.Not a bad return
from a cold and windy day in Hyde Park. Great article in the Herald
and links here to some of the pics.

Well done lads - just one more step to take.
The girls juvenile section are slowly coming back to life with the
U12s playing the first game of the year last weekend in football
against a very strong Ballyboden outfit. The U12s are in action
again this Saturday in camogie against Naomh Olafs in Meadowvale
at 11.30am. All other girls juvenile teams are back in full training
- see the girls calendar for full details www.calendarwiz.com/cualagirls.
Many thanks to all who supported the U14 girls cookie and tea/coffee
Feile fundraiser last weekend. The girls will be out again in force
this Saturday.
Cuala U/13's. Our "Blue" football team scored a good win
over Raheny in Division 2 last Saturday, winning by five points.
Unfortunately, our "Red" team suffered a heavy defeat
in Division 6 to a very strong St. Finians side from Swords. Both
teams are out again this Saturday, with the "Blues" togging
out against Lucan in Thomastown at 15.00hrs and the "Reds"
playing O Tooles at Kilmore at 15.00hrs.
Congratulations to the U12 Lions who got their defence of the Southside
A Cup off to a flying start with a 5-08 to 1-05 victory of Kilmacud
Crokes 1 at Clonkeen. The Cougars go off to a cracking start in
the B Cup scoring 7-11 against Geraldine Morans.
Congratulations to John Dillon and his wife who had a new baby boy.
Rumour has it ohn's already preparing to manage the 2015 Academy?
We would like to extend our condolences to the Goodwin family on
the death of Mary Hughes, Anne's mother and mother-in-law to Michael.
Also belated condolences to the Scollard family of the death of
John Scollard.
Friday, 16th April promises to be a big day! The inaugural staging
of ‘The Mick Holden Memorial Golf Classic’ will take
place at Woodbrook Golf Club. It will be a great occasion for old
friends to meet and to remember Mick Holden, a great sportsman and
our dear friend. Attachment has the details but in summary we are
seeking participants and sponsors for the day. Participants can
help by providing a team of four persons at a cost of €300
(including meals and excellent prizes!). Hole sponsorship is available
at a cost of €100 per hole. Non-golfers can join and enjoy
the celebrations at meal time at cost of €200 for 4 persons
(or €50 a head). This represents great value and all net proceeds
will support the development of Adult Hurling in the club. Your
support for this event is deeply appreciated.
Lastly big thanks to all the Ladies who provided tea, coffee and
cakes after the U21 Semi-Final last week for both sets of supporters.
They were absolutely lovely and the cakes weren't bad either!
28 Jan 2010
Annual Subscriptions (& Team Fees) are now due for
2010. All Players, Managers & Mentors are reminded to get your
paperwork together and keep on the right side of your local Registrar.
The AGM Re-convention is set for Friday - Coiste will be aking
the meeting to approve a further deferrment - see cualagaa.ie/Constitution/agm
On Saturday, the Adult Footballers are holding a Table Quiz in the
Clubhouse 8.30 for 9:00. This is to raise much-needed funds to kick-start
the season so why not go along on the night and bring a team, it's
just € 40 for a table of four. If you cant arrange a team come
along anyway and you'll be matched with a team on the night. And
if you would like to have your business associated with such a popular
and clever gig, why not sponsor a round - a quiz Round, that is
for a mere €100. Paddy Murdock (087 9196758) will be delighted
to hear from you. If you cant make it on the night - you can still
be highly-regarded as a Friend of Cuala Football if you offer a
spot prize for the inevitable raffle. but most of all, we'd love
to ee you there.
Our U21 Hurlers resume their quest championship glory on Sunday.
The Semi-final against Ballyboden St Endas is set for Hyde Park
at 11:00. Winners will play Lucan Sarsfields or Na Fianna. Time
to get the Cuala colours unfurled and don those hats.
Forget those New Year diets - there's Cookies about. The ever-enterprising
U14 Girls have come up with a tasty fundraising idea for their Feile
year. Each Saturday in Jan and Feb (before their match season resumes)
the girls will visit all Cuala Juvenile and Academy training sessions
to sell fresh, homemade, healthy cookies - Oatmeal, Choc Chip, Raisin
- the works. Cookies are priced at 50 cent ea or packs of 4 for
€1.50. So please bring along 50 cent to training this week
to support these enterprising and enthusiastic girls.
The Juvenile Boys get going after the winter break this weekend
so Good Luck to all our U11, U12, U13, U14, U15 and U16 footballers.
And the Mentors shake-off the dust too - there'll be a full meeting
of the Juvenile Boys Committee on Tuesday evening, February 2nd
at 21:15 in the Committee Room.
The Minor Footballers are already out there - their season kicked-off
last Sunday with a very competitive game in Belfield against Crokes
who had a narrow one point win. Castleknock is next with a home
fixture on Saturday at 2.30 in Shankhill. Then its the turn of the
Minor Hurlers who play Clontarf on Sunday in Clontarf. We hear that
the minor panel both hurlers and footballers have been training
since early November 3 times a week and the turn-out has been exceptional
so prospects look good for the coming season. All the best in your
games lads.
21 Jan 2010
Its prep-time of the year as we prepare for the season
ahead :
The Academy are short helmets, likewise so is the SSIP and Schools
Coaching. Could we ask members/players who are finished with their
helmets to donate them to the Academy and Cuala Coaching as players
may already have replaced their helmets and their old ones maybe
lying around the garage. Anyone wishing to do so could drop the
helmet down to the Academy any Saturday morning from 9.15 to 11am
and please make it known to Colman, Willie Braine, Adrian Dunne
or Breege English.
Cuala Coaching would like to encourage any team from U8 –
12, and U13 to U16 please consider having an age group workshop
or training assessment. This is not a test. Ken and Willie have
recently completed a Diploma in Coach the Coach’s and have
the most up to date fun/small & conditioned games from the likes
of Paudie Butler (Hurling) and John Morrisson (Football) that they
would love to pass onto all age groups and the best way to do this
is by age group workshops. This would also be an opportunity to
prepare and plan a six week programme offering some new ideas and
variety to the your sessions.
The recently released Cuala Coaching CD has over 300 fun/conditioned
games as well as 80 hurling and football skill cards. If you would
like a copy of the CD please inform your academy rep before next
Tues’s Juv meeting or email williebraine@eircom.net and I
will leave a copy in the bar.
We would like to remind all patrons, adults and juveniles that players
need to be registered asap in order to be covered for games and
training. If you are going to register then please do it now. Otherwise
mentors spend ages chasing around trying to get the paperwork done
and to be honest its a waste of everyone's time. Forms are on the
cuala website - it couldnt be easier.
Cuala U21 hurlers are in the Championship semi-final Saturday week
30th 2:30pm against BallyBoden. Fixture set for Shankill but watch
out for venue switches. This is a big one and we need all the Cuala
supporters out in force.
There will be a quiz night Sat week 30th in the Hall in aid of Adult
Football.
Most of you will have seen the notice .re the AGM on the website.
I won't repeat the notice here so please check out the website for
details.
14 Jan 2010
Thanks to all who made last Saturday such a success - the
Coaching conference, registration and Micko at the Academy. It was
a very enjoyable day with a big crowd - and a few inches of snow
too!
In case you missed it we got a double page spread in the Herald
last Tuesday. Here is the link : http://www.herald.ie/sport/the-dubs/cuala-claim-capital-gain-2009910.html
Well done to all those who braved the weather last week to attend
the juvenile registration and the coaching conference. Those who
did not make it to register must fill out their forms and return
them with payment either to their team mentors at training this
weekend or next week or in person at a second registration morning
provisionally scheduled for Saturday morning, January 23rd. Any
Juvenile players who have failed to register with the club, and
through us with the Dublin County Board will not be eligible to
play or train with the club from Saturday January 30th so please
make every effort to get this done as swiftly as possible.
Thank to all participants of the Cuala Coaching Conference that
came out in the bad weather, we hope you gained some knowledge from
the conference. We would like to thank Angela O’Sullivan,
Ciaran Muldowney and Mick Brennan for their excellent presentations.
The presentations will be on the Cuala Coaching Website very soon.
The Coaching Department aim to fulfill the requirements of the Cuala
Mentors but if there are any areas that were not covered or you
would like assistance with, or should be considered for next year
please email williebraine@eircom.net.
The Cuala Coaching CD was launched at the conference and Willie
Braine will be making a presentation of how to use the Coaching
CD at the next Academy and Juvenile meeting, with a copy for all.
For all you energised coaches after the Christmas break there is
a suggested Winter Training Prog for ages 12 to 16 on the CD that
individuals or teams could consider. All the skills cards you need
and reams of conditioned/fun games are there to help design your
coaching sessions, as well as a session template/example and a section
on how to plan your session. Plus a 5min video on the IDEA method
of coaching. The finalised Cuala Player Pathway is the bible for
Cuala success so when planning your sessions have a quick look to
see what you should be coaching your teams.
The Lucena Foundation are holding an information evening for parents
“Getting in,Getting along. Social Skills for Primary School
Children: Top Tips for Parents" , Tuesday, 26th January 2010
@ 7.00 p.m, Lucena Clinic, 59 Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin, 6. This
event will be facilitated by the Speech & Language Team of Lucena
Clinic.
Music session in the bar this Saturday 9:30 till late- all welcome.
7 Jan 2010
Happy New Year to you all and I hope you all enjoyed the
break and the 'seasonal' weather.
Congratulations to the 1999's (U10's) who participated in the St
James Gaels' run "John Humphrey Memorial Tournament" on
the 27th and 28th of December. Having beaten St Annes, St James
Gales and Castlenock in the preliminary round, the Cuala lads were
pitted against Thomas Davis in the semi final. History was about
to repeat itself. In a game of incredible intensity and skill, the
Cuala lads repeated the successes of the 1998's last year, and edged
out Davis by a point after extra time. This was not a game for the
faint hearted with the Cuala lads putting in every ounce of effort
imaginable. Victory came at a price, however. Notwithstanding the
phenomenal effort put in against St Vincents in the final, Vincents
won by a solitary goal coming late in the 2nd half. The Cuala lads
played with great pride, determination and skill throughout. The
semi final was reckoned by all to be the highlight of the Tournament.
Cuala's Sean McDonald was picked out by the organisers as player
of the Tournament with reference being made by the Gaels Chairman
to Sean's likeness to the late Great Mick Holden. As in all games,
it's about team effort and the 1999's certainly did their Club proud.
