Junior C Championship

Game:  Cuala V Parnells in Chanel Park at 3pm on Sunday 16th June 2013

 Result:  Parnells 1-10 Cuala 1-12

Cuala 3rd team footballers started the C Championship with a hard fought and deserved victory over Parnells on a score line of 1-12 to 1-10 in Chanel College.  Any team that goes to Parnells and comes away with a victory knows they have been in a game and so it proved on Sunday.  Cuala started off slowly and led by 0-3 to 0-1 after 10 minutes but following this they hit a purple patch and scored 1-3 in the next 8 minutes with Stephen Butler Owen Hackett and Keith Keogh getting some fine scores. Stephen Butler scored the vital goal when his attempt at a point dropped viciously into the net helped by the fact that the Parnells goalie was looking for his kicking tee as the ball was still in mid-air! However a few lapses in concentration in the 4 minutes before half time allowed Parnells back in the game and Cuala’s lead was down to 2 points at the break.

The 2nd half was a much more robust affair but Cuala’s resolve never wilted, Eamonn Drumgoole hit a few monster points midway through the half which settled the team and with heroic displays from Ian Moore Mike McDonald Peter Smith and ” Gooch” Breathnach  Cuala held out for the 36 minute 2nd half to record a famous 2 point win. Huge credit is due to the 5 minors who all played major roles in the victory, Conor Murphy at wing back his brother Shane at wing forward and subs Dylan Treacy Sean O Dulaing and Eoin O’Naoire.  Sean O Dulaing received a nasty injury in the last few minutes after a very late tackle but has since recovered.
