  • The Cuala senior footballers maintained their unbeaten start to the league with a 7 point win out in Portmarnock. Naomh Mearnog were the opposition. The first half was a tight affair with sharp free taking from Mearnog’s Jamie Walsh keeping Mearnog with their noses in front. Cuala’s own sharpshooter Conor O’Brien kicking 3 points himself and with Donal Lehmann kicking a fine score from the left the half finished 6 – 5 in the favour of Mearnog. The second half was to be a different game though. Cuala started brightly and O’Brien converted a tight free from the right , Mearnog edged back in front with a free themselves. This trend continued with Cuala kicking some nice points from play with Mearnog responding with the free taking skills of Walsh. However as the half worn on Cuala started to take control , with the score locked at 8 all , Cuala’s domination began to tell. A sweeping move the full length of the pitch ending in O’Brien been fouled as he was about to goal, James Power tucked away the penalty confidently. Mearnog again responded with another free from Walsh but that was to signal the end of Mearnog’s scoring. Cuala were now in total control and points followed from Scott O’Brien , Brosnan , Sweeney O’Rourke and Lehmann. An excellent win for Cuala and focus now turns to their championship clash with Olafs on Friday April 29 in Glencullen. Final Score Naomh Mearnog 0-09 Cuala 1-13.
