Cuala Senior Hurlers won an exciting top of the league table clash with a fine St. Jude’s team on Wednesday evening at Shankill Park. The 2-17 to 2-14 win leaves Cuala at the top of the league table. The game was very well contested with the result in balance until the final whistle – when a well taken Andy Browne goal secured the 2 points. Cuala, playing with the wind, started well. However, a series of wides and missed chances saw them only leading by 06-04 after a period of early dominance.Cuala’s goalkeeper, Fintan O’ Brien, converted an excellently taken penalty and with fine point from John Sheanon, Shane Kiely and Scott O’Brien, Cuala led by a point, 1-09 to 1-08, at half-time. Facing the elements and with the early concession of a second half goal, Cuala had a lot to do! But do it, they did. John Sheanon was assured and consistent from the frees and with very good team play, Cuala levelled the match – only for St. Jude’s to re-gain a 2 point lead. Cuala’s battling qualities, will-to-win and fitness saw them finish strongly, scoring the final 1-02 to win the match, to retain their unbeaten league record and to inflict their first league defeat on St. Jude’s. Cuala Senior Hurlers now face an equally challenging league match away to the unbeaten St. Pat’s at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday next. Exciting times!

Good work again from the Senior Footballers who were very unlucky not to pick maximum points on their travels to Skerries on Saturday. The game started brightly with Cuala edging in front following a fine score from Donal Lehman. With “Fitzy” and Jack McKenna outstanding in defence Skerries were struggling to put scores on the board , and a lovely score from Ciaran Brosnan put Cuala 6-4 up at the break. However some stern words from Skerries manager Charlie Redmond at half time, spurred Skerries on and 1-1 at the start of the second half put them ahead for the first time. However Cuala responded and a goal from James Power 5 minutes from time looked to set Cuala on their way to another away victory. However 7 minutes into injury time a free from Skerries saw them snatch a draw. Cuala move to second in the table and remain unbeaten in the league this year. Final Score Skerries Harps 1-09 Cuala 1-09.
