MFL – Div 4
Cuala Minor Bs got their first home win of the season at Hyde Road against a tough St Sylvesters team. The result was built on a strong defence with Cianan Crowley standing like a rock against the visiting team. Kevin McHugh started strongly at corner back but was injured and replaced by Rob Hallam returning to the team for the first time this season. Rob moved to centre back with Chris Byrne coming on at corner back when Shane Kearns went off injured in the second half and gave a strong performance with surging runs forward and several attempts to score. Donal Ennis gave a man of the match defensive display at left half back with Tagdh Blake putting on another excellent performance on the right. Shane Errity scored a first half goal and together with Oisín Breathnach dominated midfield throughout. Eoin Collopy scored two great second half goals to cap an outstanding performance at centre half forward. First half points from Luke Treacy and Andrew Brady (who got three more in the second half) ensured that Cuala were on level terms at half time 1-4 to 7 points despite playing against a strong breeze. Great attacking runs by Seán MacAodh and five points from frees and open play from the brilliant Paul James helped Cuala pull clear. Briain Ó Ruairc had a great day in goal with another of his trade mark forward runs. On the line coach John Sheanon showed his tactical genius by bringing on Mike Shanahan at corner forward to score a cracking goal to finally kill off the opposition. Maurice Goodwin and Brian Barry added pace and guile up front as Cuala ended the game well in control.
Cuala B 4:10; St Sylvesters 1:09.
